The time has to be right and the beard has to be several days old, and then this is an efficient piece of machinery, for me that is. Thanks Gary.
Pointiest teeth of any in my collection. Not really a good time. Sent from my Pixel 5a using Tapatalk
I don't know, I've not ever shaved with one but the Muhle R41 couldn't be anymore aggressive than an abc set, could it?
ABC isn't aggressive it's just uncomfortable . Some iKon razors also suffer the pointy teeth syndrome. Sent from my Pixel 5a using Tapatalk
Crazy psycho stuff... I posted earlier in the waiting to arrive thread that my LD 500 Rocket (paperclip), psycho, and flare tip rocket arrived... I did not realize this psycho was made in England, and didn't expect the cap and baseplate to be different than my USA psycho. No date code on the English psycho, or Gillette logo, just made in England stamped on top of the baseplate. Anyone know what years these were? Enjoy the comparison shots, look forward to your comments as always! Thanks. Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
BTW, I loosened the caps in the first shot to show the differences in head geometry better... here's a fully tightened side profile shot. Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
The change in the design of the baseplate was done on all Tech razors regardless of origin sometime in 62 or no later than 63. Go look at tech razors made in 61 and 64 on ebay to see the change. Your English one is 62ish or later and the American one 62ish or earlier. With that said the Pyscho Tech razors were meant to be safe not and are not good performing shavers for that reason. Nice collector pieces for a shave cave but not a daily driver type of razor.
Thanks, upon closer inspection under the light, with reading glasses i apparently need now, I can see the English psycho is X1. 1977 it is! Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
DE SOTD, Nov 13th 2021 Razor: Gillette Regular Flare tip Super speed B2- Mfg 1956, 2nd qtr, Excellent mild razor, I like to shave with a KAI SS DE blade extra wide blade because it gives a nice boost in blade feel or blade exposure. This razor is wonderful with the right blade in use. Blade: Kai SS (5) Excellent, sharp & smoooth. The Kai is 4.5/1000 of inch wider per side than a a standard Gillette Astra SP. Good to have a tuck or 2 for those nice mild razors that are not being used that much. I use this blade in my mild razors a lot. Soap: Cyril R Salter Indian Sandal wood cream , 6/10 sandalwood scent strength, excellent lather qualities.(misted) Brush: Yaqi 24mm Tuxedo knot with black marble handle Excellent lather generator, heavenly cloud like soft tips, nice scrub + excellent lather painter. This brush seems to be perfect for my face feel and always enjoy using it. Pre shave: Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on the cleaned beard area. Prep: Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. Post shave: Proraso Red sandal wood with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizer lotion (balm) + scentless. Results: CCS,DFS,BbS + no irritation + no weepers= Excellent shave with my Gillette 1956 SS with a Kai SS blade. Have some great shaves!
Nice razors and how do they differ in the shave they give? The English version appears to be the more efficient of the two.
Well I'll say the English psycho is a great shave...though I can't say it was any different than I expected of a tech shave. I'll use the US psycho on my next shave, but I'm not really sure I'll notice a discernable difference sadly. Might just have to let this one go. I can't recall the documentary, it was on for background during school work. It was about book collecting, and the theme from most was collecting is collecting. Reason I bring it up was there was a great quote from a well known collector. I'm paraphrasing, but it goes like "I don't regret the books I've bought only to discover they're no different than a few I already have. It's the ones I didn't buy, that I regret." No regrets, enjoy the pics. Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
