Even a disposable will get you. Sorry about that, Paul. It's also possible, that you are sliding left or right, rather than pulling straight down. That'll slice you in a heartbeat.

I'll pay attention to this sliding thing, thanks Joseph.

Well, I certainly had a lot to think about with my shave today(granted it was with Barbasol "Magnificent Goo"). I wanted to be sure to avoid zig-zagging the razor, which is what must have happened to cause that huge cut from yesterday. I slowed down, especially going up NW Porcupine Alley(my most tricky area), and the same on the other side of N.Porcupine.Jawline looks fine. I said yesterday I was going to skip S.Porcupine for a day or two to avoid contact with The Big Cut. I decided today to go against my plan and do South P. going VERY CAREFULLY over the cut area. No further damage. Nice work down at Cactus. One pass did the job. Frank Sinatra's favorite Agua Lavanda Puig for the aftershave, and I should have used more than I did, but that's OK...we live and learn, Doc Puig created a nice aftershave all right.. Compared to what happened yesterday, this shave was Outta This World Excellent, and in fact that is what I'll call it.

Nov 14. SOTD COMPLETION OF FOCUS

    VDH Razor Shave #10
    Rockwell DE Blade (5)
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
    Arko SS
Pinaud Clubman Lilac Vegetal (The Veg)
    Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 23 hrs

    20211114_093159.jpg

It is my last shave of this focus with the VDH razor. I decided to use Arko today because I rarely use it for face shaves. However, I have to say this soap performs like a thoroughbred champion. It is easy to lather and the slickness it provides is truly phenomenal. It is the main reason why I use it for my headshaves. Two passes and a touchup and I gave myself a very close, comfortable shave by virtue of the alum feedback. Did my routine postshave and finished with a generous dose of The Veg.
In conclusion, I was impressed with the VDH razor. Although I prefer more aggressive razors, this razor did a very nice job. Does it warrant a move up in my safety razor collection. I would say no because my other safety razors are much better as far as I am concerned. However, I will not turn my nose down using this razor.
    Have a great day guys!

Great comeback from yesterday's shave, Paul. I think you will find that you cuts will be less frequent when you go straight down your face and neck per Maestro's suggestion. When you go across the grain, obviously you are going in an east to west direction and you have to keep the razor going straight in the same direction. Enjoy your day!

Thank you Joe. I think what happened is that I kept watching the various videos where they do what I did(move the razor around a bit in different directions), but they must have kept the razor straight, not in a zig-zag as per my shave yesterday.

Zig zagging a razor is definitely a no no!
If I want to change direction in the middle of a pass, then I lift the razor off my face and adjust accordingly. You can shave with the razor with the edge on the 10 to 4 o'clock position (oblique) in relation to your face as long as you keep that position while moving the razor in a straight line.

The RazVite even on a fairly mild setting is supremely efficient ("dull" Derby blade notwithstanding", the mythology of sharpness), if not particularly comfortable. Stellar results in two passes.

The Famex/RazVite family of adjustable razors really need an indexing mark. Gotta find something.[IMG]
