Wow, awesome razor, Karl! I’ve been looking for their lancet model. Just missed one on the big auction site a few weeks ago.
SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 9, 2021 I enjoyed another lovely shave this morning featuring a very good soap with a great post shave skin feel. In fact, it was so good that the Florida Water AS Splash was almost an afterthought. The Viking Silvertip Badger did a terrific job whipping up the two types of lather I enjoy with my morning shave, light and liquidy for the mug and thick and yogurty for the dome. As many of you know, Thistle Cut straight razors originating in NY and finishing in Fremont, OH used a particularly fine-grained NY/PA originated steel in their blades that is capable of holding an incredibly sharp edge, almost too sharp. I own two models, the beautiful little 5/8 I shaved with this morning and a little shorty model called the “Persian”. This is one of only a few models of razor where I lightly score the completed edge along the corner of my finishing stone after running it through a regular honing progression, a trick I learned from Howard Schlecter here, a Boston based honemeister. This removes the accumulated burr buildup. Five or six very light laps on the Suehiro 20k restored a buttery smooth edge that left me “smooth as a peach” after two and a half mug passes, as a Swedish shave brother of mine likes to say. I truly enjoy my dome shaves with my Ronson safety razor. I initially modified modern DE blades for it. The modification is virtually identical to the one for the Gibbs Adjustable, but I was never happy with the shaves I was getting. My friend, David, a true southern gentleman, patiently endured my concerns and then introduced me to the use of modern injector blades in it. My shaves since have been excellent, as it was this morning, leaving me velveteen smooth from shoulders to noggin. RAZOR: Thistle Cut 5/8 (Mug), Ronson Safety Razor (Dome) BLADE: Schick Injector II Twinblade (Dome) PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger SOAP: Baume.BE POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Florida Water AS Splash.
Thursday DecemBOAR 9, 2021 Razor: 1934 Aristocrat Blade: Wizamet Brush: Vintage NOS Boar (Unbranded) Soap: WK Dulci Tobacco Shave Cream AS 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla 70 AS 2: CHH Tobacco Fragrance: Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1128 The brush: Even after a couple test lathers and sitting all night with soap in it and re-rinsing this morning, it had a touch of funk scent to it but improved. The Good: NOT a SINGLE hair shed during all the prep and use. The Bad: these vintage are so small they don't make/hold enough lathe for 3 passes. That may improve as it breaks in so it will stay until I re-evaluate at that point. The Cream from WK: Scent was more pronounced after lathering and it was SLICK for sure. Felt some burning though. Not sure if the brush (I doubt) or the Cream had something that messed with me (leaning to this) The Razor: I like the shaves best of this Aristocrat over the 4th Generation 21/66 I had. Odd as this is an OC compared to the SB but it is what it is. The dilemma is do I leave as is (rough vintage loved shape and maybe a slight frown to it, sticking doors and perhaps something internal with the rod) or do I send to Razor Emporium for a revamp ? If I do send it in, do I get it in Gold a $40 increase from the Nickel. I'm NOT big on Gold razors and would prefer Nickel but some would consider that a travesty........The other option is to send in for a Tune-Up? Help me decide by giving your inputs please, especially Matt if he sees this !! Off to my 12 hour workday, typical Thursday...........Have a GREAT day everyone !!

Thursday morning: L’Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole Super Speed/King C. Gillette day 2 MSC Vintage Spice SS Bull Dog Moisturizer MSC Vintage Spice AS Splash My brother Fernando nailed it with this Vintage Spice soap and aftershave - the scent is beautiful - exactly the same as the Shulton Old Spice which I love so much. The soap is tallow based and the lather is actually thicker, richer, and slicker than the Old Spice soap not to mention how much better the skincare is. The Bull Dog moisturizer works so well as a balm, and the Vintage Spice aftershave smells so gorgeous and because it’s witch hazel based there’s absolutely ZERO stinging or burning sensation. Today’s shave was fit for a king - three passes left me smoother than silk! Enjoy your day and your shaves - be well and safe! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
