I admire your blades too, very much sir!

This one arrived today, already honed and ready for tomorrow! Kikuboshi 6500 Silver Steel by Perfect Works, I didn’t even know this model existed. Arrived sealed in it’s wrapper. A very handsome razor.

Had a fun week going out to the mailbox.
First was this Bengall:

I have a few Bengalls, but most are around the 6/8” size. This one will require a little work and I want to change out the scales, but I like the size… just around 15/16”.

The next one popped up for $5, so had to dig deep into the wallet.

The “American Razor” out of Sheffield always gets a second glance to see the quality of the blade face and scales, and this one looks pretty good. The tang stamp on this one says Superior Razor, and goes nicely with one I have had for a few years that just says Warranted.

Finally, the one that kicked off this mini buying spree, a Boker Abalone.

This one is drop dead gorgeous to me. It was listed with a very good BIN price, I put it into my watchlist, and by the time I got into work, there was even a lower offer… how could I say no.

The proportions looked a little off for what I thought was a 6/8” blade, and once I held it I realized why:

7/8” feels very nice.

The reason the Boker was.listed at 6/8th is probably because many manufacturers measured the blade, and not the spine. Now, we all measure from the top of the spine, all the way to the edge of the bevel.

BTW, very nice looking razors. I like the Bengall. I have a few, and they are excellent razors.

Latest acquisition, or rather a gift from my mother and a friend of her. The SSA is from my mothers friends father. It’s 7/8” and looks like it never been used. On the box it’s stamped Verona. Must be a export model. The other one found my mother on a pawn shop in Germany, also 7/8” without any markings.

All I can say is wow, Tom! Those Abalone scales knock me out!

I’d been watching this razor for almost three weeks hoping someone, anyone would buy it. After a week the vendor offered me $15 off the listed price, I countered with $25 off, but it was a no go! After watching it for another two weeks, I contacted the vendor and requested $20 off. He accepted, and here it is. I’d been reading about the “cult” of Bartmann at SRP and saw Bartmann razors listed for ridiculous amounts of money. The guy who sold it to me told me the blade was manganese steel. That was a new one for me, but it arrived with an existing though dull bevel. The blade was flat as a pancake, just like my Filly. After a touchup on the 9 Ball Slate and a burnish on my jasper stone, I ran it through the constroption and had just an amazingly comfortable and close shave. If this razor is standard for the brand, I understand people’s enthusiasm.

I’d very much appreciate hearing your experiences or knowledge about the brand. Was this a one off, or rather typical for these razors?

Congrats Jeff- you picked up a beauty.
I happen to have a soft spot for the bearded gentleman.

I have a 7 day set of High Class blades, but no gold on the tang… yours is very nice. I have a few big ones in the 15/16” range, specifically the 89 (round pt) and 86 (square point) that have Manganese Steel on the reverse. Also was lucky to pick up a 22, which has the gold.

Cape 500 Silver Steel by Perfectworks, cream was AdP lathered with a SOC, and AdP finished up a perfect shave.
