SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 30, 2021

I really enjoy shaving with “Bone Mosaic” 7/8, one of the two Victor Creazzi creations I own. The balance in hand and the incredible edge just never let me down. It is one of the straight razor benchmarks I use to evaluate my edges. This morning’s two and a half pass mug shave was excellent as expected, leaving me porcelain smooth.

Fine Accoutrements’s stainless steel “World’s Greatest Safety Razor” was supposedly a homage to the Gillette New LC and a follow on to their successful “Marvel Safety Razor”. The fact that they no longer sell either says it all. I have both. The little pot metal Marvel outshaves its more expensive stainless steel successor, although both deliver a decent shave. Two ATG noggin passes was all I needed to feel smooth clean and velveteen.

RAZOR: Victor Creazzi’s “Bone Mosaic” 7/8 (Mug), Fine Accoutrements’s SS Safety Razor (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: JR Boar #374
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.

    START Shave Cream
    Jayaruh #1 Silvertip Badger
    Gillette Fatboy E2
    Nacet Stainless
    CWR
    Pinaud Clubman AS

The START Shave Cream lathered well with the Jayaruh #1 Silvertip Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Gillette Fatboy E2 Razor with a Nacet Stainless Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Pinaud Clubman AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Paul Turner outside the quote(s) now

My Throwback Thursday of this week will be tomorrow. . I could have done it today, but I don't have an origin date for this Duke Cannon Warm Clear Gel I used. It's a good thing I'm not doing a video for this gel, as I would simply say "I don't like this product" and shut off the video. Why don't I like it. I CAN'T SEE IT. Simply put. Comes out clear, very much like the Rise Shave Gel. It's very hard to shave what you can't see. Somehow, I managed to get the job done along all of Porcupine Alley. It got pretty difficult to do along Cactus Nation. In addition, by the time I got down there I was upset, and it's tough to do a shave when upset. If only Duke could put VISIBLE gel in there, this might have been a solid product. The one thing I did like about was the warmth it provided. I never had the "hot towel" treatment done, but that's what my face and neck felt like before beginning the shave. Well, I expected that, as it did say on the can the words "warm gel". Anyway, back to Cactus, I suppose I managed all right, but it could have been a lot better had I SEEN what I was shaving. Another good thing I can say about the shave in general-No cuts or Knicks. I'm not sure I'll use the Duke again(I kinda prefer SEEING what I'm shaving), but as the shave could have been much worse than it was, I'll give it a Pretty Excellent.

    Filarmonica No.13 Muleta

    Diamond Paste and Chromium Oxide
3” Notovan Horsehide Premium Old No.2
    with Genuine Flax Linen

    TheCaYuenWorkshopLLC
    2-Band Badger “Abalone” brush
    Maggards sample of
Wholly Kaw of Merchant of Tobacco
    Stetson cooling moisture Aftershave
When I pulled out the Filarmonica upon taking an edge peek under the lights I noticed that there were several places along the edge that appeared tattered.
I thought well maybe this is the time I have to take this razor to a finishing stone.
    NAW!
I pulled out the Heirloom Razor Strop Co. four sided paddle strop which I put diamond paste and chrox on two of the sides back in 2009ish. I have since put more chrox (last year) but have never reapplied any more diamond paste. First I stropped the blade on the hard cloth of the Kanayama 30k for a while then proceeded to use the paddle strop. I pretty much quit counting years ago as I (pretty sure I’m gonna catch guff for this) go by the sound. When I felt it ready I cleaned the blade and went back to the Kanayama cloth and used it to remove some burrs on the edge them went back to the chrox then over to Tony’s Old No. 2 flax linen then the horsehide. Finished off on the Cordovan on the Kanayama.
    The edge is perfect.
The blade is so sharp and comfortable I never felt the edge.
    A Fantastic result.
The Wholly Kaw sample smelled more like candy than tobacco to my nose, but I’m not a tobacco aficionado. Wonderful scent and decent lather with I’m certain is a version of the base from the past.
    Nonetheless a great performer.
Using the soap samples allow me to go to some classic aftershave’s that are now collecting dust since I started using artisan soaps. And there is a very good reason this aftershave is still around as the Stetson AS does not disappoint.[IMG]
