:signs001: Jeff...My pre-shave ritual works for me too... Glycerin based soaps are my favourite, especially pears transparent soap which never fails to create a layer of slickness, and softening my stubble at the same time. Enjoy your day too, take care. Yours-Barry.

“ECWS Top 5 Soaps Used for the First Time for 2021” - # 1 for 2021 is the Lakewood Soap Company Casual Friday. The scent profile for this soap is a follows: “A laid back blend of Bergamot, Lime, Sandalwood and Dark Patchouli.”

I had another efficient three pass shave with my second Double Duck razor in the den. Like it’s brother from yesterday’s shave, this razor truly delivers a smooth and comfortable shave. I am now ready for a round of shopping with my 85 year old mother.

I hope you have a great day gentlemen.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, JANUARY 6, 2022

Yurii Kravchenko builds fabulous straight razors, and has sufficient models to offer for even a customer like me. One who doesn’t go for the extra wide blades that seem to be the trend in modern artisan straights these days. Yurii was great to work with. I was looking for a 7/8 extra hollow ground blade with a barber’s notch, pinch grip and blue stabilized maple burl scales. He steered me to his Zodiac model and went on to deliver my custom razor exactly to specifications. It took me one shave to get used to the new razor.

This morning’s mug shave was my third with the razor, and was a delightful experience that checked all the boxes for me. Two and a half passes left me with the kind of glassine result I seek in my mug shaves. I like the heft in hand provided by this superbly crafted shaver. And the edge is sublime! I own two extra hollow bellied grinds, and many regular full hollows, but the extra full, non-bellied grind Yurii provides was new to me. The blade flex initially took me aback, but a slight adjustment in shave angle and all was right in the world!

The French Spadson is a rather rare razor dating to the late 20s to early thirties. The head was crafted to provide a different type of shave - mild or aggressive - depending on which side of the razor head one was using. I used to describe it as “assaultive” before I discovered that the handle was failing to close completely and thus sufficiently clamp the razor properly in the head. After replacing the Spadson handle with a Famex handle, the razor performed well, although to be honest, it’s a highly efficient (ie ‘aggressive) shaver regardless of side used. The key to success with it is ‘lightness of touch’. Two ATG noggin passes without the usual red fluid I’d come to associate with this little Frenchie, and I was porcelain smooth from noggin to shoulders.

RAZOR: Kravchenko Zodiac 7/8 (Mug), French Spadson Safety Razor (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE #005 Aluminum Handled SynBad Knot
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Canoe Original.

Report of First Throwback Thursday shave of 2022:

    Good News:

-Nice work alongside the cheeks&sideburns, which included a "redo" of a miss on the right cheek...it's good.
-Ditto Porcupine Alley (upper and lower)
    -Cactus Nation fine.
    -No Cuts
-Bill Neumann A.S. did its job nicely(skin food, nice fragrance)

    Bad News:

-a Knick, which was worked over by the Bill Neumann.
-Couldn't get a pattern going at South Cactus, but it was OK. Need a pattern down there!!
-3 increments of the loading. 3 times too many!!

Final Comments&grade..Much better than yesterday. Most of my Stoylin soaps are still at or near the top...must lower the "bar" on 'em.

    MOST EXCELLENT.

Decided to shave this morning instead of holding off late afternoon.
It was time to use the Razorock Classic soap. The scent is practically gone, but so is the soap. I probably have 20 shaves left before it is titanicked. The two pass shave was close and comfortable without any cuts or irritation. I had some stinging on my neck from the alum. Witch hazel and Old Spice ended the shave. I look and smell good. Enjoy your day!

I haven't used anything other than the Shake Sharp lately and honestly I'm not tempted away, it's simply that much superior to any other DE and the form factor more likeable than my SE faves. TJ cream mixed with my homemade oil yield an unbelievably good one pass head shave. Twin BIC blades per usual.[IMG]
