I think having Max as my first übersized razor helped me to shave with Artie. I did a video last year shaving with Artie. Did you see it? Personally, Artie is very maneuverable and it doesn't feel heavy to me. It is nicely balanced. However, if it was a near wedge than I am sure the heft would definitely come into play.

Thank you Eric. I am a Chem teacher by profession and I have gained so much knowledge from personal research and from past and present members of the 30 DC group. I still am learning new things because I enjoy this hobby. Every member here will agree that there is so much shaving info that has improved their shaves. It's what makes shaving fun and enjoyable.

Hey Joe! I taught high school chem for 11 years, up to 2003. I was then entering my second year of pharmacy school, having made the decision to switch careers. My father taught chemistry and science for 30+ years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (making us Yoopers!). And his father taught in a one room schoolhouse in northern Wisconsin in the 30 and early 40s!.

That is great we have something else in common besides shaving Eric.
We also have a retired chemical engineer and he is Charlie @wristwatchb. He is a charter member of this group.
He is very funny and a great guy

What I liked about the DX is that the shave angle is virtually identical to a traditional straight razor. If you develop expertise with the DX, then the transition to a regular straight should be easy. One of the advantages of the DX is there is no maintenance required. When I started straight shaving, straight razor maintenance didn’t appeal to me, but as time passed I began to appreciate both maintaining a good edge and crafting one of my own. I’d recommend starting with a Feather Proguard or Softguard blade.

I am glad to know the DX is a quality tool. I got a great price on it, and it came with a healthy stock of Feather Professional blades. My first two shaves were not so great. I have so many blades, I can't bear the thought of adding more to the stockpile.

I'm so happy you and others have picked up on the twin blade set-up. Not what Friel had in mind when he designed the razor but for me it takes an already great razor to another level of smoothness and efficiency.

Eric, the Feather Pro is a fine blade. The nice thing about the Proguard and Softguard is they protect the user against accidental slices (ie moving the blade sideways). That was an issue for my grandson, but I never bothered with them myself. My preferred blade in the DX is the Feather Super, as well as being my honing benchmark. Enjoy your shaves!

Thank you Joe. I did not spend too much time with her. She was not feeling well so I just went to the stores to pick up some groceries for her.
