  1. The Focus razors have stirred my curiosity. They look so different than most DEs. It's not something I feel like I have to rush to buy but they seem like solid razors for the price. The all-black Tritok Concave is a beautiful thing.

There can never be too many Erics! It's great that you're interested in participating and I would love to share your experience. I certainly enjoy my injectors and am always happy to see others show enthusiasm about these great razors.

    January Injector Focus Shave #3

    Pre-shave: None
Lather: Hendrix Classics & Co Havana Breeze
    Brush: Jayaruh #347
    Razor: Schick M1 Adjustable (7, 5, 5)
    Blade: Supply Black Label (3)
    Post-shave: Nivea Sensitive balm

My recently NOS Schick M1 adjustable proved to me once again why it's my favorite injector by delivering yet another fantastic shave. There's something that's just so natural about using this one for me. The handle length and shape combined with the weight and angle of the head all come together just right for me. I started on setting 7 for the WTG pass and then down to 5 for the XTG and ATG passes

HC&C Havana Breeze is an amazing sweet tobacco scent that starts very sweet from the tub and then shifts to tobacco when lathered. I know I'm not all that experienced but this is just such wonderful soap that I thoroughly enjoy.

Today was my first time experiencing a brush eating lather. I had a good lather built in a bowl and it just disappeared when I brought it to the face. Literally vanished. I had a hard time believing it at first. It took adding more soap to the bowl and loading the brush a second time to get back on track. I can see how I'd use a lot more soap this way!

The jury is still out on just how good the new Supply Black Label blades are. I can confidently say that they are both sharp and smooth, certainly the most comfortable and efficient injector blade I've used thus far. This is the third use on this blade and it shows no signs of dulling. If it lasts at least five good shaves then it will qualify as a great blade in my opinion.

Thanks for reading and happy shaves!

  4. Terrific shave Eric! I have lather hogs in my den. It used to frustrate me because I had enough soap, but it would move into the bristles and I would have to squeeze the brush to get the soap on my hands to lather my face. Needless to say it was a pain because I had to rinse and dry my hands before I started shaving. It wasn't until about a year and a half into wetshaving that I discovered the answer. I know. I am a slow learner. Lol! I load the brush and when I think I have enough, then it's not. Continue to load the brush so you have a real heavy load. At first, paint face and neck a few times without splaying the brush. Finally, you can slightly splay the brush and scrub the face with a circular motion. However, don't put too much pressure on the brush throughout the entire process, otherwise, the soap will go into the bristles. Repeat this procedure for every pass. Hope this helps.
  5. Yes, thats what we all agreed on. However, I gave you grace that it had to be by the end of this summer and that would be by the end of Aug 2022.

  7. Very nice shave Eric. That is one beautiful looking bowl. I pose this question regarding the vanishing of the soap. When lathering in the bowl do you add a few drop of water at a time until you get the soap consistency that you like?
  8. Thanks, Joe!

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, JANUARY 7, 2022

Woke up to our first snowfall of this winter! Only 4 inches which when compared to one of my Idaho friends is laughable, since he is contending with feet instead of inches. Broke out a straight razor I haven’t used in months, the Puma 88 5/8. The edge on this razor was buttery smooth. Two and a half passes gliding on that awesomely slick MWF lather left yours truly’s mug as smooth as my great granddaughter’s behind.

My long time TSD friend and Gillette expert, Gary (@brit), helped me to identify this British Gillette Rocket a few years ago which was misidentified on EBay UK. As many know, I’m not a fan of Gillette TTOs, but I couldn’t say no given the price. As far as Gillette safety razors are concerned, I’m a big fan of their second generation “New” models, but this morning’s shave was nothing to sneeze at! Two ATG noggin passes left me velveteen smooth from noggin to shoulders.

RAZOR: Puma 88 5/8 (Mug), British Gillette Rocket (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: JR #378 Rosewood Handled Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm and Canoe Original Splash.

  12. January Injector Focus Shave #6

    Razor: Parker (v.2)
    Blade: sChick
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts Cities in Space
Soap: Wholly Kaw - King of Oud

To explain my delight in seeing @MaineYooper here, we met in another "shave"-borhood and last month he very generously gifted to me the hand-turned Cities in Space brush, the Parker razor, and the sChick blades I have been using. I am enjoying the gifts a great deal.

First use of the Parker. I ran it opened up to 5. It gives a very smooth shave. Nice easy-going razor that produced no weepers at all, even at the highest setting. This razor has similar efficiency to the vintage Schick G and J. The Parker might be a hair's breadth less efficient, but is more comfortable than the G (which is quite comfortable itself). At this point my number one pick would be a tie between the G and J (I should have a better idea by the end of the month). Next would be the Parker, and unfortunately the M is my least favorite (sorry @SRQShaver and @MaineYooper). I suppose that is the risk in collecting vintage razors: you may not know the history of each individual razor. It is quite possible that my M fell off a vanity at least once in the last 50 years; one can never know. It's ok with me, though, as the G & J far outclass the M in style :)

First Significant show of the year shave: Mother Nature provided us with about 7 inches of the fluffy white stuff. Naturally schools have been closed therefore I have a full house to spend the day with. As a result of the snow, I had a leisurely morning before I did my X3Bar workout, shower and wonderful three pass shave.

Once again, a super smooth end result. Snow is now shoveled. It is time to work on another razor restoration.
