  4. Oh you did, Joe? Sorry-ahhh, I just got a little tired of it, as I felt I'd be repetitive in some areas. Course I hope(and expect)to have more GOOD NEWS than BAD.

    Maggard's Alum Block

It's a Stirling Spice Saturday shave today. The scent is a cologne dupe of Old Spice and it really is pleasant. I went crazy with the hydrating the soap that it was a goopy, thin, slick lather. The wonderful thing about Stirling soaps is that you almost can't break it with an over abundance of water.
Artie mowed down my 46 hr stubble without any trouble and gave me a nice, near BBS shave on just 2 passes with hardly a touchup. Did get a weep on the corner of my mouth going against the grain. I usually go at an oblique angle, but for some reason I went straight up in that area. The weep disappeared without my intervention. The alum gave me some feedback on the neck. Finished with splashing the witch hazel and the Stirling Spice aftershave. Enjoy your Saturday guys!

  8. Routine "(magnificent)goo" shave this morning, although gel is less gooey than cream/foam. I did fine with the Edge Moisturizing, but again left a spot in the middle of my right cheek. I didn't go over it during the shave, but had the presence of mind to get rid of it when I DID feel it. Finished with TSD Store's Russian Leather. I really like the RL. Should feel great in the cold air when I get out and go shopping later. For the shave itself, the cheek miss brings it down to Very Excellent.

SOTD SATURDAY MORNING, JANUARY 8, 2022

Everyone seems to be talking adjustable safety razors lately. So I pulled out the Gibbs Adjustable #17 and nipped a fresh Polsilver to fit. This is supposedly one of the razors that inspired Matt Pisarcik’s design of the Rex Adjustable. I don’t really use my adjustables as they should be used. I like to shave them wide open. My son’s two band Badger resin handled brush did a great job generating the slick, yogurty MWF lather I like for my noggin shaves. And the Gibbs performed masterfully, eliminating my dome stubble in two ATG passes leaving that glassine smooth result that I know my hand will be returning to over the course of the day.

Following a conversation with an Idaho friend yesterday about the Saito SK series of Japanese smiling blade razors, I decided it was time for a shave with my Saito SK-3. The Swedish silver steel blade of this razor holds an amazingly sharp, yet buttery smooth edge. I credit it completely to the 9 Ball slate. Under the USB microscope the bevel is mirror bright and smooth. Howard Schlecter’s pasted constroption has been maintaining that edge beautifully. In any case my mug shave this morning was “divine” as Barry, a UK shave brother, is fond of saying about a great shave. Two and a half passes put the baby to bed and left me cool, clean and velveteen.

RAZOR: Saito SK3 (Mug), Gibbs #17 Adjustable (Dome)
    BLADE: Modified Polsilver DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Blue Resin Handled 22mm Two Band Badger made by my son
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Osage Rub and Canoe Original EdT.

    SRS # 622

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Frederick Reynolds 5/8”
Brush: Jayaruh 410 with Omega #48 Boar
Lather: Blackship Grooming Company La Concorde
Aftershave: Black Ship Grooming Co. La Concorde
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

Fabulous Saturday morning shave. The weather for the day is blue skies with very cold temperatures starting out about 20 degrees. Fortunately, there will be no out of doors chores except for getting smoke firewood into the house today.

I decided to go with the BSGC La Concorde which is a barbershop scent. Part of the impetus for using this soap was the discussion Joe, @Trigger, and I had at our meet up this past week regarding barbershop scent. The other reason is that SWMBO likes this scent. Happy wife = you know the rest.

The Fredrick Reynolds delivered a comfortable and close three pass shave. Post shave alum report was silent, the balm added a nice touch and I will get whiffs of the aftershave throughout the day. Would the soap be a repurchase, quite possibly. The aftershave will be a definite. It will pair easily with the minimal or non scented soap in my den such as Proraso, MWF and Williams Mug Soap.

I hope you have a great day gentlemen.

  14. Great shave, Joe! Weeps happen! One of the great things about consistent use of MWF is that disappearing weeps become routine, although I haven’t had one in the last few shaves. As you know MWF is pretty much my regular shave cream as scent doesn’t register for me unless itks something unpleasant like Tabac! ;)

  17. Hey, I’m actually grateful for my stroke experience. It apparently lessened my tremors. I only begin to notice them these days near the end of the day. My neurologist mouthed some medical gobbledygook as he pointed out my stroke damage and what he thinks occurred. Doesn’t matter to me, I can shave without forearm weights.

  20. Schick injector Type J, day 3.

    01_08 sotd.jpg

Trotter Handcrafts Messier with the AP Shave Co. G5C knot.

This is an odd knot. Like the G5A, it performs better if it is soaked like a natural hair brush! But it performed like a champ.

A big ring has been sighted in the Ethos tub which has me thinking of using it all up. That would keep me somewhat consistent if I change up the injector next week.
