Beautiful razor, Tom! Glen is the one who clued me in to Thistle Cut razors! I have two, and really like the edges they take! Mine have been all the way through my Suehiro 20k and have amazingly sharp edges! I’ll be very interested in your thoughts and experience with yours!

Hans, I’m thinking Daniel Peres for the Barrel and tap trademark…

I just found out from my daughter that my four children, over SWMBO’s objections, decided to pool their resources and get me my grail Japanese razor for my upcoming 75th birthday in early February. My son, Ben, apparently sourced it. I love her, but she hasn’t been able to keep a secret since she was a little girl. Anyway, it’s apparently on its way from Japan. Here are some pictures from the vendor. It’s the Swedish Steel version supposedly made by Shigeyoshi Iwasaki. Tamahagane versions in excellent condition are now going for north of 2.5k. I’m quite happy with the Sandvik steel version. It’s apparently hardened to a Rockwell of 64! Honing and touchups will most likely take some doing. Really looking forward to getting and shaving with it.

Here is the other 8 razors, from top left:
    P. Hendrichs Solingen
Omega ( guess also Solingen )
    Unmarked with a nice spine
    Bengall

Top right ( the Swedish razors ):
    C.W. Dahlgren
F.W. Söderén must be quite old, says Price medal 1876
    Erik Anton Berg

All these for $5 each [IMG]

And the three that I have polished and honed

I like the spine work on that unmarked razor, Hans! The 1876 Price Medal 1876 Soderen looks great! Congratulations, you have quite the haul! Doesn’t look like it’ll take much work to get them in great shape.

Congratulations Jeff! Really nice razor. It takes some Swedish Steel to produce a decent razor apparently . Perhaps check the edge before going to the stones?

The vendor claims it’s “shave ready” according to my daughter. I did some research and the Swedish “Sandvik” steel Mr. Iwasaki used for his ‘western’ straight razors was hardened to a Rockwell of 64. So if it needs a touch up, I expect it will take some time. Sounds like a Tornblom in Japanese clothes! ;)
