  2. Terrific shave summary and photos, as usual! Do you ever shave with SE injectors, Barry? Just curious. I'm looking to downsize my den, and have a Schick Type G along with a fresh magazine of blades I’d like to send your way. It’s a great little razor in good nick. Since I bought the Supply injector a couple of years ago I rarely use my vintage injectors. Any interest? Enjoy your day my green citrus loving friend! Hah, see, I didn’t use the L fruit word!
  3. Another great Tech shave with great photo accompaniment, Gary! I wish you success on the job search. I don’t know about Canada, but here in the states since the plague occurred and the current administration started throwing money at people, no one wants to work. Folks are desperate to find workers. Enjoy your day!

SOTD TUESDAY MORNING, JANUARY 11, 2022

Genco, Geneva, Case and Thistle Cut straight razors all use this amazing fine grained New York steel extracted from hematite ore. I used to spent my summers with my cousins in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State (NYS). My uncle worked for Republic Steel managing the iron ore mines that had been in continuous operation there since the Revolutionary War. The mines closed down in the early 70s when it was no longer cost-effective to drill as deep as required to extract the ore.

Hematite can be up to 70% pure iron, lowering the cost of extraction, and allowing for easier conversion into the pig iron used in blast furnaces. In any case, the beneficiaries are those of us fortunate enough to own straight razor blades made from the fine grained New York state steel extracted from this NYS hematite. One of the first straight razors I acquired was this sweet Genco 35 5/8. My son thoughtfully blunted the square point after yours truly generated a few red racing stripes on his initial shave with it..

The razor was prepared for me by my son, Ben, who honed it after I obtained it in a trade for two vintage Gillette safety razors. He reset the bevel and honed it on his Shapton progression from 1k through 16k. The razor and Ben’s work spoiled me, but also taught me as I began to acquire more straights that one man’s “shave ready” does not equate to another’s. As my honing skills developed I now routinely set my own bevels on all new-to-me vintage straights. The two and a half pass mug shave with the Genco this morning was a delight as always and left me delightfully smooth.

Thinking to follow up on my great mug shave I grabbed one of my favorite vintage safety razors, the Barbasol Floating Head (BFH). Madame Barbasol is a fickle, jealous lady who demands the shaver’s full attention as I was reminded this morning during my follow-on noggin shave. My attention wandered as I was ironically enjoying the Traveling Wilbury’s “Handle With Care”, while shaving the back of my noggin, and she bit jarring me away from the music to reach for my styptic gel. I finished the two pass ATG shave with my full attention. Smooth, but chastened, I put Madame Barbasol away, but will use her again tomorrow to ensure she understands she’s my best shaving girl!

RAZOR: Genco 35 5/8 (Mug), Barbasol Floating Head (Dome)
    BLADE: Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Pure Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

  5. :signs001: Jeff...I've never experienced a SE injector shave..They look a work of art, like the Ever Ready SE razors...That's a wonderful generous gesture Jeff which i will take you up on Thank you...I'll message you my details. Yours- Barry The green tea drinking Limey.
  6. CREMO now has a body wash!! Might give it a whirl someday.
  7. I don’t get what you mean around rinsing and wiping! I don’t rinse or wipe any more than I would with my Katsumi 14/13?

  8. Larger blades hold more lather than smaller ones so it's easier to shave without constantly wiping the blade.

  9. May you find gainful employment Gary. Btw, it's a cool seup.

  10. Terrific above-the shoulder shave Jeff. That's a shame about the cut on the back of your head. I don't listen to the radio, etc while I am shaving because I would lose my focus and also would cut myself. You are brave guy to do it.

  11. That's a wonderful shave Barry. Of course, smelling of Old Spice doesn't hurt.

Yaqi Razzo Rocket stainless steel handle.
    Astra SP blade (fresh).
    Razorock 400 Plissoft synthetic brush.
    Eufros shave soap.
    Timeless shave bowl.
    Cremo Bourbon and Oak EdT.

It is hard to get away from the Gamechanger. It is a razor that I keep coming back to. The Eufros was a PIF from Dave @Dave in KY and I really enjoy this soap. It all came together this morning.

    Take care everyone!
  14. Must be your shaving style, I don’t wipe any mor with a 4/8 than I do with an 8/8. Different strokes, literally! ;)

  15. I listen to music with every shave. I just really like the Traveling Wilburys, most of whom are pushing up daisies, and this morning attempted to sing along! Bad move! I’ll just stick to shaving with music in the background. Tomorrow, Madame Barbasol and I will dance again! This next time I’ll be sure to remain focused!
  16. Great kit, Danny! Eufros and a GC! It doesn’t get any better!
    brit and JACarbone like this.
  17. Nice shave Danny. Is the Eufros a cologne type scent?

  18. Thanks and I would say yes. Take care.
  19. Agreed. I am just weird. Lol!
