SOTD. WEDNESDAY MORNING, FEBRUARY 9, 2022
Woke up to a lovely morning and had an excellent shave. Grabbed my Filarmonica Novodur 13P and proceeded. My Filly is truly comparable to the Bartmann 86 I shaved with yesterday. I understand the brand loyalty both brands bring out in their devotees. Despite a slight difference in heft in hand, both delivered an identical two and a half pass glassine level of smooth.
One of the problems with RAD (Razor Acquisition Disorder) is that those who suffer from it always end up with many more razors than any one person would ever need. In my case discovering the amazing GE Jones Shake Sharp SE resulted in my acquiring five of these remarkable little safety razors. I have over the years PIF’d two of them to friends in the wet shaving community leaving me with a Bakelite Handled MK1, a gold plated metal handled Mk2 and a nickel plated metal handled Mk2.
This is the only SE I’m aware of that uses DE blades. Since it was designed for the thicker carbon steel blades of the 1930’s, it performs amazingly well with two stacked DE blades, one atop the other. I’d never used Kai blades in it, since they are a smidge wider than regular DE’s, but they fit with no problem, and provided two ATG passes of neck to noggin velveteen smoothness.
