The English language is seriously butchered, today. There are many commonly used words, and phrases, that make no sense, or are made up. Here is one that makes me cringe: Irregardless. This is a made up word, that seems to combine "Regardless", and "Irrespective".
You being a Northerner, probably don't know this is a contraction of "you all". But it should be y'all, with the apostrophe.
Hard to apply rules to a "non-word." In my quest to get the word established in proper English lexio-graffy, I would be willing to forego the apostrophe in light of common practice of dropping punctuation in text messages, etc.
