A Week with the Twig and Thorn by Leaf Shave

I had the good fortune to try a Twig and Thorn this week. Both provided a week worth of easy, comfortable, BBS shaves. They worked particularly well on the chin area compared to other DE razors. Not once did they draw blood. I used the Astra SP, Nacet, and Leaf blades. I do not detect significant difference in blade performance. The razors are well designed. Fit and finish is very good. Mechanical parts work well and feel solid. Weight is not too heavy, not too light. I like the unique design. The handle, although fat bottomed, is not at all awkward or uncomfortable. The razor balances well. I only wish the grooves extended through or knurling was added to the smooth middle section of the handle. My hand naturally wanted to hold the razor on the middle section, but it is too smooth and slick. I had to dry both my hands and razor with each rinsing.

Great shave Eric. Leaf has a rubber handle cover for the regular Leaf razor, but I am not sure about the Twig/Thorn.

    Good evening!

    Shavette Shave #333
    Dovo Shavette
    Personna Hairshaper Blade (11)
Heritage Collection C-Mon Replica Super HD Badger Brush
Music City Suds Lavender AS and SS
    Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 30 hrs

Going along with my Favorite February theme, I chose this setup because each item is either my favorite or second favorite in my den. The lavender scent from this soap is a knockout. Of course, my Dovo shavette is my top dog beating out the Parker. The C-Mon brush is 2nd only to my JR #386 Silvertip.
Got real nice, slick and wet lather. Two passes without pickups, blood or irritation gave me a very close and comfortable shave. The alum affirmed it because there was very little feedback. :) Witch hazel and that wonderful matching aftershave ended this fine shave. Take care.
PS. I did a lather video and I should be able to download it tomorrow.

    Lather: Derby Shaving Soap bowl.
Blade: Ted Pella PTFE SS. (D4)
    Razor: Gem Featherweight.

    Post:
Cold water face wash with brush squeezing's, Cold Water Face Rinse./ Homemade (~Autumn/Winter mix~) peppermint lavender, eucalyptus, + Tea Tree essential Oils Mixed Together With 200ml of Care+Witch Hazel./Osmanli Lemon Eau De Cologne./Wilko Fruits Lemon & Black Pepper Body Butter.

    Greetings,

    Early Morning Shave,

A comfortable shave from the Gem Featherweight & Ted Pella PTFE SS blade Sunny Supreme Stainless blade duo to finish my shaving week off wonderfully...The longevity of the Ted Pella PTFE SS blades has really impressed me, normally i will retire a blade after 4-5 shaves max, but like the Schick injector blade in my previous weeks shaves i will continue to use until it starts to feel dull tuggy and uncomfortable to use.

A enjoyable 2 pass + pick ups close shave with no errors to report to finish my shaving week off on a high note!

Finishing the shave off with a small dollop of Wilko Fruits Lemon & Black Pepper Body Butter.

My face is feeling smooth cool, & smelling divine.;)

Stay safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

Fine shave Barry! Glad you are doing well with the Pella DE Blade. I did not have much success with the Pella Injector Blade. However, I replaced a new Pella blade in my Schick E3 and did get a nice shave, but I had to buff a lot more compared to the regular Chick blades. Hopefully, when I go back to the razor that it will be much better. Have a fine afternoon.

:signs001: Joe....The Pella blade is working fine for me..I've never tried the Pella or the Schick injector blade, The Personna is working wonderfully for me with my recent introduction to injector razors...Take care, and have a fine afternoon too my friend.

A fine shave this morning, but one that should have been better. I should have spent more time at the loading dock. As we know, I've cut down on counting my loading time of late, but with MWF(and probably Williams, too), it seems you just can't be so carefree with the count. The brush LOOKED ready to go to work. but it has to be MOST ready(maybe even SUPER DUPER ready), when MWF is the shave soap to work with. Still, it was decent shave. Before beginning the second pass, I did the extra loading that I should have done at first. Even with the extra load, it looked like I was shaving absolutely nothing-that the MWF was invisible soap. All of this considered, I was satisfied with the end result. No Knicks or cuts. The Bill Neumann Signature 1907 was a solid finisher. I'll give this a Super Duper Excellent rating, especiallu that I now know what I need to do next time to bring it to a higher grade. 0:40 to maybe a minute is the best loading time for this (and Williams too, I guess). Not one of my favorite soaps, but it gets the job done.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, FEBRUARY 10, 2022

I returned to our place in the city yesterday with my faithful buddy, Gromit to join the bride in our condo. Brought a couple of straights since I had none stored there. After arrival I discovered that a safety razor I’d been looking for at our place in the burbs had been sitting in a drawer here in the city since February of 2020 when the plague began. American Safety Razor, the main competitor to Gillette for the last century formed when Gem and Ever Ready merged 116 years ago in 1906. The merger was further strengthened in 1919 when Star Razor, the descendant of the Kampfe Bros. Razor company joined. The little Star DE was developed in the forties as a competitor to the Gillette Tech. In fact I prefer it to the Tech and find it to be a bit more efficient, at least for my dome shaves. YMMV! It has a very grippy handle and a generous sweet spot. When loaded with a Kai blade there’s no closer vintage DE shaver. Two ATG passes left my noggin very clean and smooth.

The mug shave featured my Kravchenko Zodiac. It is an extra hollow and arrived beautifully honed and truly shave ready this last November. Yurii is very customer-oriented and truly attempts to meet all needs. In my case I requested a barber’s notch and a pinch grip with stabilized blue maple burl scales, all of which were delivered exactly as requested. I like the razor, but would like a bellied hollow grind if I ever order another. I own two Creazzi bellied hollow grind razors, and must say I prefer the feel in hand that these grinds provide. They just feel more stable in hand. This is not to denigrate Yurii’s work, the razor is an excellent shaver. I just would like a bellied hollow grind instead of a full hollow. I prefer the stability a bellied hollow grind provides. There is much less waviness, which I’ve learned to compensate for. This morning’s two and a half pass mug shave left me velveteen smooth from neck to noggin.

RAZOR: Kravchencho Zodiac 7/8 (Mug), Star DE (Dome)
    BLADE: Kai DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE #007 Knurled Aluminum Handle Hybrid Knot
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pinaud Lilac Vegetal.

I love the Star. I did not realize they began the de as early as the forties. The handle knurling reminds me of the Rex Ambassador/Envoy.
