Thanks Joe! It is a shame this company doesn't produce shaves soaps any longer. I am fortunate that I have another 6 oz puck and aftershave of Music City Suds Lavender and Ever Amen.

Since I shaved last night, it will be a no shave day for me as well. I still don't know what my setup will be for tomorrow's shave.

    Silver Star Duridium Blade Shave

Razor: Star (vintage); Henson Al 13
    Blade: Silver Star Duridium (vintage)
Soap: Wholly Kaw - Vor V

I am participating in a Silver Star blade challenge in another shave-borhood. Tonight was my inaugural shave using a vintage Silver Star blade.

With the Star razor I managed to complete 3 passes on my face. The blade felt pretty tuggy and fought me the whole time. All the whiskers are gone, but neither I nor the blade really enjoyed the process. For the head shave I transferred the blade to my Henson AL13 medium, hoping that the blade would respond well in a modern razor engineered to extremely high tolerances. That old blade was just as stubborn in the Henson.

I was really looking forward to trying this vintage blade in other razors, but I am not comfortable with the idea of torturing it further. It looks so cool, though, it deserves to be preserved. The extra thickness of the blade will make this a great shim.

Nice razors, but too bad about the blade Eric.

cool shave and pic.there aren't many vintage blades that shave as well as they did when new.i think the edge deteriorates over time even when not visible to the eye.the vintage gillette spoilers, and others that had the metal/plastic dispensers were coated in oil.that helps, but i still get a dud spoiler once in a while. :)

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, FEBRUARY 11, 2022

Today’s shave featured two incredible razors, one of which I only expected several years ago to just learn on, and that was the little Lord 6/8 straight razor. This razor is not in any way affiliated with the Indian razor blade company but apparently is about 100 years old, dating to the 1920’s. The Art Deco designed shank would tend to confirm that. This was the first razor on which I was able to build a decent edge. I have no idea what it would be worth, but would never sell it as the edge is a pleasure to shave with. I touched it up on my Swaty barber’s hone last night and this morning’s mug shave was a delight. Two and half passes left yours truly clean and very smooth.

I was notified yesterday that my Kickstarter Supply Pro Adjustable razor was delivered to our place in the burbs yesterday. I had brought my Supply V2 SS with me to the city along with my favorite Schick Injector II blades. The new Supply Adjustable supposedly comes with their new Supply ‘Black Injector Blades’ supposedly manufactured in Seki City, Japan which we all know has a long and storied history of blade-making going back over a thousand years. It’s certainly decent marketing hype. I was not a fan of the white plastic magazine injector blades they used to provide. So the jury’s out. I expect I’ll give it it’s inaugural shave either Saturday or Sunday. The new Supply V3 comes with fins resembling an OC that supposedly make it ‘nick-proof’. I’ll be interested in hearing what people think. I’m very happy with my V2, and feel no need to upgrade perfection. My noggin shave with the Supply V2 was the usual excellent two ATG pass shave and left me velveteen smooth from neck to noggin.

RAZOR: Lord 6/8 (Mug), Supply V2 (Dome)
    BLADE: Schick Injector II
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

Well, once again I had issues with that MWF. I want to like it, as it has nice old-school qualities to it, and people like it a lot, but it just evaporates on my face if I don't shave it quickly enough, and shaves shouldn't be "quick" 0:40 to load and I should have gone for AT LEAST a minute. As it was, I did about 0:10 before the second pass. Fine job shaving along the cheeks&sideburns, although the right cheek needed some additional shaving before I was satisfied. Porcupine Alley came out well. Not so, Cactus Nation. By the time I got down there, I couldn't see ANYTHING to shave off. I got the sides all right, but the areas around the ingrown hairs just didn't come off. I guess I just don't have the magic one needs to negotiate this soap. Again, the Bill Neumann provided for a nice close. A Little Bit Excellent. I'll do better tomorrow because I will actually be able to SEE the soap, as is the case with most of what I have.

I don't recall asking about gel on a brush, but I do recall the subject having come up. Nivea offers a pretty strong gel-to me it blows away the scent of whatever aftershave you use to follow up(course that wouldn't include a SCENTLESS A.S.).

Eric, thanks for the post, but my experience with vintage carbon steel blades has been similar to yours. They’re interesting looky loos, but compared to a modern blade not worth my time. I have had good experience with vintage Enders Speed Shaver blades, but that’s pretty much it. I like your blade holder! Those little Star DE’s are sweet little shavers with the right modern blade loaded. I’m a Featherl, Kai guy, but I do have a hoard of older Russian blades I pull out now and then (Polsilvers, Original Brown Iridium’s, etc). YMMV, but I would stick with modern blades in your vintage bladeholders. Enjoy your shaves.

Lovely goop shave, buddy, with that beautiful FB. I say again, that is one purty handle! There’s no better feeling than looking forward to going to work. Then it’s no longer work! Enjoy your day, Gary!
