Paul, one of the things that we all do at times is we load our brushes the same amount of time with different soaps. Unfortunately, it is not a one size fits all here. I never lathered MWF, but it seems to me you need to load triple the amount than you had. My rule of thumb is if you think you have enough, then you don't. Some soaps are thirsty and others not so much. You have to adjust to the different soaps.

Paul, good shave, but I’d like to share some pointers about MWF which as you know is my regular daily go to. The lather you describe is protolather. MWF is a very thirsty soap which many pass off as unable to lather due to hard water, soft water, whatever. I’ve used MWF all over the country and the world quite successfully. I found this excellent lathering tutorial by a guy from the Shaving Cadre site who’s a working barber. MWF is not a soap for the impatient! It takes time to build a proper lather and plenty of water. Watch the video. I hope it helps. I love MWF and have never found any other soap with its p0st shave and long term usage benefits. Click here

    Good morning!

Fine Accoutrements Platinum Blend SS and AS Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel

I decided to bring out the FA Platinum Blend because I only used it once before. Supposedly, it is a dupe of Creed Adventus. The soap performs well, but my experience with Fine's frag is very disappointing. I might as well shave with a scentless soap. Anyway, I had a great 2.5 pass shave without any errors so I shouldn't complain. Postshave routine was uneventful except I had some alum feedback. Have a good day!

Wardonia/Treet Platinum (Asylum RX handle). Pretty mild with the Treet on first use. Light pick ups with the Shake Sharp. [IMG]

Very helpful video, Jeff. Thank you. I've never put lather on my hand to transfer to my face-always a time to begin with that. I'll never be able to swirl as fast as he does. But I have the general idea for next time I do MWF-which probably won't be for quite a while. And if you look REAL HARD, you may find some posts in the Shaving Cadre from me :).

Thank you Joe. I'm not fast/strong-loader, and that could be a problem with a soap like MWF. But I'll keep it around.

    Lather: Declaration Grooming Original
    Aftershave: PAA Black Bot
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original

Fabulous Double Duck Friday shave this morning. Both the software and hardware excelled during this shave. I just love the Declaration Grooming soaps.

Today’s three pass shave was comfortable and has left my face “smooth and velveteen “. How’s that my friend, Jeff, @jgreenpa.

I have spent my day with the missus, or should I say “Drivimg Miss Daisy” to the spa for a couples massage, furniture store, lunch and doctor’. We have beautiful weather here on LI. I hope Koe, @Trigger, is not working. It oils be ashame to miss this day.

I hope you all have a great day gentlemen.

I thought you weren’t going to shave today? Glad the shave went well. I have a few scented creams I like, but no scented soaps. Seems a waste to me. YMMV

I’ve never shaved with a Wardonia, but the Shake Sharp never lets us down. I’m so grateful you introduced me to it.

You misunderstood the intent of the video, Paul. He used his hand to demonstrate how to build a lather, not to demonstrate that one then transfers the lather. The key to MWF is to use very little water on the cake itself, and to spend a fair bit of time building lather in your brush. That is when you would either build a lather on your face using plenty of water intermittently, or build a lather in a bowl using plenty of water intermittently. You don’t necessarily need to swirl quickly. But you do need to spend time doing it. I’ve always said that Mitchell’s Wool Fat is not a soap for the impatient. I generally spend up to two and sometimes more than two minutes building my lather. The result is well worth the effort. This soap is not for everyone. I love it and use it 95% of the time.

Perhaps Paul it is you water hardness. Why not give it a try with some Poland Spring Water to see if you get different results?

Terrific shave Joe. I am enjoying the day. Tomorrow will be another great day and then Old Man Winter returns Sunday with snow. Oh well, we had a nice respite, but it is back to reality.

Awesome shave Jeff. What tempted you to pick up the V3 if you are thoroughly satisfied with the V2?
