Acquired this old and rather large Bengall in December. Bengall on this side and Made in England on the reverse. I have a few but this wins on size, at around 15/16’s. The idea is a minimal blade refresh, with some wooden shoes. I liked the color and grain of this set. Once I cut them out, it wasn’t doing it for me, so shifted to plan B. I do like the old English blades in wood, but maybe a darker wood… so I snapped these in half. Plan B was not to throw them out , but I think this wood works with colors, and green was speaking to me. I dressed up the transition and went with “Spring Green” for the light color, and a Carbon Black with a touch of the Spring Green added for the other. I then also poured some of that darker color back into the first set and swirled for that slight effect near the wood. Pulled them out of the mold today and will figure out which direction to go. I am leaning towards the lighter green for this one. More to come… Enjoy your projects. Tom
I always enjoy your threads and am impressed by your skill Tom. I'm sure either set of scales will look great once done.
Thank you - I appreciate the kind words. I think I found a blade to go in the darker scales. I am excited to see how they will look once these are shaped.
Made some progress this weekend with the blade and the scales. The blade took some hand sanding. 220-400-800-1500, but didn’t spend a lot of time at each grit. Good enough for the look I’m going for. The scales always take me a while. Shaping and thinning with 60 grit drums on a Dremel and then come up to 400 with hand sanding. They do have some cool effects in different lighting, but now to add the super glue finish to see if it pops. Enjoy your projects. Tom
The look of the scales after a super glue finish… Looking forward to making a wedge and pinning these up. A white camel bone wedge should make a nice contrast to the wood. Tom.
Not quite the traditional look for a Bengall, but I like it. and the reverse: I went with reproduction decorative washers, and I like the big brass look on this big blade. It went together tight and centered. Enjoy your projects. Tom
