1. No, although the name would lead one in that direction. It’s a Sheffield. They made pens, quills, cutlery, writing boxes and other fine goods. They may have manufactured their own razors or it’s possible they were actually made by John & Wm Ragg - can’t say. But, the razors are first rate :happy093:

  2. Yesterday, the Rifuto with MdC original in the ‘brain bowl’ and paired with Myrsol Agua Balsamica, an excellent combination. A Razorock boar did the lathering.

Today, the ‘new kid’ Henckels Friodur 14, soap was 3P lathered with a M&F Finest, and Cade balm topped off a great shave. The Friodur 14s remind me of a big, friendly dog, they’re huge but shave very mildly.

Friedman and Lauterjung, Other side stamped Electric. Honed this big boy since the edge previously was adequate. After going through my progression of 1k Diamond, the three Welsh stones and adding in the black surgical arkie and finished on the strop , it is now really a darn good tool.

  6. James H. Flagg exchangeable blade frameback, lever locking. This is a French razor and I’ve seen rhe same razor with French branding. Flagg had a cutlery shop in New York City from about 1896 to 1906, and the business re-organized in 1904.

The odd thing is the ‘USA Patent January 2 99’, stamped on the blades and the tang. How could he patent a French razor design? So I looked for the patent and there is none. It’s all advertising. If you look at the calendar for January 1899, New Year’s Day fell on a Sunday, so just as today, the holiday was observed the next day, January 2nd. The US Patent Office issued no patents at all on January 2nd because it was closed!

  7. Filly 14 Novodur, soap and balm were I Coloniali Mango Oil soap and Rhubarb balm, and a SOC Mistura did the lathering.

  12. Rifuto shave #52, soap was SV Asylum Colonia beta 4.3 lathered with a Thäter brush (one that hasn’t failed yet, lol), and AdP Intensa AS finished up a great shave. The edge was beginning to deteriorate, so before I shaved, I got out the Sharptonn poly firehose and boar strop and gave it 10 strokes on the ‘linen’ and 25 on the boar. That did seem to noticeably help, and I’m looking forward to testing the poly firehose more - Victor Creazzi (Bluesmans Blades) likes it a lot.

Definitely signs of a German blade for the Italian market... has that lovely shape & grind of a Puma 18, and that 49 identifier is on others I have with that shape.

Probably my smallest razor. Think the width is about 1/2” or so. I call it my 35 Hoffman as that’s what was engraved into the scales. No maker name. Just previous owner marks. I’m ok with that. In honor of Hoffman, this shave went well with the rework of the edge.

    Soap: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
    Brush: Omega Boar
A/S: Alum followed by Witch Hazel
  16. St Valentine’s Day shave, last year it was a Red Imp, this year, a Robert Klass Kissing Crane. Soap was MdC lathered with an Omega 49 and a little C&S 88 finished up a great shave.
