Inaugural shave with the GipsonHandmade Kamosori. It has the distinction of being the largest blade in my den. According to Joe,
@Trigger, I have now reached the big leagues. My initial impression is the quality craftsmanship of the razor that Andrey Shpakovskiy, the artisan behind the production of the razor, has put forth into the razor is phenomenal.
My impression of the first shave is that although I received a close shave, I felt it could have been closer. The resulting closeness was not on par, although slightly less, with those that I have received from my traditional straights. I will chalk this up to the learning curve that comes associated with shaving with a new blade.
In contemplating the difference between the traditional straight and the Kamosori, the significant difference is the lack of scales which creates a difference balancing issue in your hand. Much like the function of a tail on a monkey, which assists in the balancing of movement throughout their environment so does the scales on a razor. The lack of the scale had me trying to find the right position for my pinky as well as becoming comfortable using my non dominant hand in certain areas. I am sure as I progress the shaves will get more comfortable and the results better. If not, it may just need a refresh hone.
