The unique scent of Mug is very good, but my expectations and perceptions of the lather just weren't positive for me. I tried several times with multiple pucks before I threw it away. Kudos to those who enjoy using it, and for your sake, I'm sorry they took it down.
I suspect that Williams probably could have continued on the market, if they had done two things: Reformulated their product to an earlier formula. There are about five to choose from, and all were better than the current soap. Followed Old Spice and reintoduced themselves to a younger generation. Preferably after a reformulated version was introduced. The mainstays of their retail, barbershops and local pharmacy joints were on their way out, replaced by chain stores. The large stores would rather use the shelf space for more lucrative products. The 1.49 puck was doomed. The only surprise is that it hung on this long in the face of much better products. I suspect the demise of a large portion of their 'legacy' clients during the Corona virus pandemic was also a contributing factor.
Combe better get busy reinventing. Grecian Formula and Just for Men is definitely not for the younger set.
Here is a link to a GREAT price for the Tallow Williams. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2846722481...rentrq:64b5d5e317f0ab9e6412489afffbbdf4|iid:1
I can still buy Williams pucks at my local grocery store for $1.50 (USD). I grated mine using a cheese grater and it works pretty well.
