  1. Excellent shave Eric. Keep at the Shavette, you will eventually dial it in.

  3. I must have looked like a little kid in a candy store.
  4. I had a problem with Williams so that's why I don't go fo for MWF. I also don't care for Unscented or neutral scented soaps which is another reason why I would not go for MWF. I guess that I can use a scenting oil on those soaps, but why bother when there are many scented soaps on the market.
  5. Fine shave Joe. Yes, I think you should give yourself a rest tomorrow.

  6. Thanks Joe. As you know, it's a joyous time when an open blade shave is just fantastic.

  7. I've been struggling with my MWF, but I wonder how it would be with my newly-formed plan of "more soap, less water".
  8. Every soap is different. I am a face latherer, so I sometimes start with a pasty load or a moist one. Based on reviews, MWF is a thirsty soap so your method may not work with it. I think your issue with lathering soaps is that there isn't a specific soap/water ratio and it changes with every soap. I heavily wet my face 2x with a brush so that I know I have enough water to start lathering. Usually, the soap is pasty and that's good for me because it starts making a creamy lather. I will wet the tips and then continue to lather. If for some reason the lather is a little too runny, then I add soap to correct it. Bottom line, lathering is not an exact science, but you need a lather that will make your razor glide on your skin. If you want a Santa Claus Beard or a thin lather, then it depends on the soap and what fits your needs.
  9. I slap the water onto my face(from the tap amount in the sink)about 4-5 times before applying the swirled soap. It's like those Mennen Skin Bracer ads "Thanks....I needed that". Used to do 7 slaps, found that was too much water/not enough soap, and I didn't like that.

I was too curious about the Mühle soap, so I put the aloe puck in my shaving mug and did a test lather with it, using a synthetic brush. I'll have to experiment a bit more to get it really dialed in, but it was pretty easy to get a good lather going even on the first try.
  11. Great shave, Joe!

  12. I think you can get a decent lather with most soaps, although some are trickier to lather than others. My rule of thumb is if a soap has plenty of skin food ingredients, then the more difficult it is to lather.
  13. I don't think this has much if any.
I've tried a few artisan soaps, didn't notice a huge difference. That said, my water is soft and I haven't tried any soaps with a finicky reputation.

  14. That would definitly be true of Bill Neumann soaps, then. But I may get one anyway.
  15. Hi guys! I mentioned that at least once a month that I would download a video of me shaving or a shaving video that I think you guys may find entertaining. This is a video made by the Böker company on how to straight razor shave. It's filmed like a 1920's black and white silent movie with ragtime music in the background. During the presentation, the guy shows an unorthodox grip that has the index finger on the tang and the middle, ring and pinky on the shank as he is doing a wtg pass. I found it interesting.. Normally, the classic grip would be to.have the index and middle finger on the shank and the ring and pinky on the tang. Anyway, it's just a 10 minute short film. Watch it to the end because you may be surprised at the finish.

  17. Hi all!
Since covid my days and nights have been full.
Hopefully everyone is doing fine and your families are too.
I'm still shaving daily with the most efficient razors and feather blades.
    Anyway.....
I haven't bought a new razor in quite a long while, that dry spell was broken yesterday.
I picked up a King-C-Gillette from a local drug store. I think it's a bit over priced but with gas over 4 bucks a gallon and hamburger the same per pound what isn't over priced.

Now looking at this razor, the coating seems well done, there is no bad spots on my unit and the shine is top notch.
First lifting it out of the package, it's a heavy little tool, disassembling it I find that the handle is most of the weight.
The barber pole design makes it easy to grip and hold.
This razor is a 3 piece, I like 3 piece razors, they are easier to keep clean.
Inserting a feather blade, aliment is good, reassembling it, the blade stayed in proper alignment.
Using some bay rum I mixed up a thick creamy lather that I'm used to when using any other tool.
The first couple strokes told me everything about this razor.
A mild tool likening a Gillette black tip only much heavier.
My normal one pass shave turned into a 3 pass shave on the mug.
The gourd got 2 passes to be as smooth as I like.
I had to work to clean it out between strokes, I attribute that to the small gap between blade and safety bar.

    The verdict.
This Gillette, it's a mild, heavy, but seemingly well made tool that anyone could use, weather they were new or an old time wet shaver.

All in all a good razor especially if mild is your cup of tea.

Well I gotta get to work.
    To all.
    Good luck.
    Good health.
    Good shaving.

    And
    Enjoy!!
