This is the one you advised me not to try, right Joe?

A much better shave today than yesterday :). Since the soap (Central Texas Soaps Weekend Rodeo) is almost at the bottom I tried a different loading tack-just going after certain sections of what is left. In feetball stadium terms, I "shaved parts of the crowd" instead of the field. I think I'll try that with other soaps where the "field"(bottom) is visible. Going after the crowd did help get some good loading onto the brush. Anyway, solid work all around during the first pass. On the second, I did notice 3 polkadots at North Porcupine Alley. Additional soap over them and going light knocked them off. The cold water rinse was a help, too. Those were the only problems-thus No cuts, No Knicks, 3 Polka dots. I was more careful with the aftershave(same name as the soap). You almost have to stop the pouring the instant anything comes out. I closed with a few spritzes of Pierre Cardin Cologne at the elbows and wrists. Very Excellent.

Nice one Paul. Football season is over so I think describing your shave as a layup would be more appropriate.

Shave 11/30. Very pleasant afternoon shave, one pass and touch-ups. No nicks or weepers, just a close, comfortable shave.

    Have a great day!

Great video, Joe! Yes that ending DID surprise me. :). I loved the ragtime music-brought me back to when my sister played ragtime as a teen.

Well, you're right....many times basketball is played before a feetball-stadium-like crowd. It was a slam dunk compared to yesterday.

I am glad you enjoyed it Paul. I have known about this video since my early days of straight shaving. I like it because it has something for everyone to enjoy. I still get a kick out of it no matter how many times I watch it.

The end was akin to 3-Stooges material. But as for the video itself, I did n't know all that cleaning of the blade(post-shave)was needed.

    SRS Shave # 661

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Tuckmarr 5/8” Maccassar scales
Brush: Sawdust Creation Studio “Inferno” Silver Fox Synthetic
    Lather: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
    Aftershave: Aqua Velva Musk
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Alum Block
    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

Over the past several weeks I usually reserve Sunday’s shave with a sample soap in my den. However, given some discussion from our esteemed Chemistry teacher, Joe, @Trigger, regarding the potential effects of the hardness of water on the lathering ability of the Mitchell’s Wool Fat soap, the Fat receive the call.
For those of you that are either new to the 30DC or may not be aware, Joe and I live approximately 8 miles from each other here on Long Island. That close proximity allows us to periodically meet for breakfast for our monthly LI Chapter of the 30DC and now to test the claims regarding the lather capabilities of the Fat in hard water.

Using a synthetic knot, I loaded the brush off of the tub for about 90 seconds as per Joe, @Primotenore, recommendations in one of his videos. Following the load of the brush, I continued to whip up the lather in my Fine Accoutrements bowl adding a few drops periodically until I managed a thick lather.

I proceeded with my usual three pass shave. Each application of the lather, which did not dissipate, provide a slick cushion for the razor to do it’s job. The post shave alum report was silent coupled with the witch hazel, balm and splash have my face smooth and velveteen.

In my humble opinion, you can whip up a nice lather with the Fat in hard water. That being said, the time to get the lather to a thickness that would allow a comfortable shave, without dissipation, is much longer than many other soaps in my den. Therefore, if you do not have the time to spend in the loading and development process, approximately 4 minutes in my case, then the Fat may not be the soap you would choose save for a lazy Sunday morning.

I hope you all have a great day gentlemen.

Thank you Joe. Rest from painting today, perhaps some outside work in the yard.
