Being a traditional straight shaver is more than just shaving with one. Stropping the blade before the shave is important because it straightens the edge. The beard will make the edge "wavy" and so if you don't strop, then the shave will not be comfortable. There's refreshing the blade when the razor is not as sharp and is slightly tuggy. This involves using an abrasive paste or crayon to rub on the linen part of the strop. When refreshing doesn't work than you need traditional honing stones of different grits which will cost hundreds of dollars. Honing can be difficult because it is an acquired skill. It is why I use lapping films to hone my razors because it's inexpensive and easier to get a nice edge. Finally, the blade does need to be cleaned, dried and oiled to prevent rust forming on the razor.. With all these reasons as well as the learning curve, most shavers don't delve into straights. However, there are some shavers that will go for shavettes because they want a straight shave without the hassle of spending beaucoup dollars and of maintaining a straight razor.

Great shave Joe. Yes, I don't want to spend 4 minutes or longer to whip up a lather which is another reason why I won't use MWF.There are too many soaps on the market that literally explode when lathering, such as Stirling, Tabac, Razorock, Cella, Arko and others.

Thanks Joe....with the soon arrival of warmer weather(and short-sleeve shirts)comes the time to crank up on the colognes. Swiss Arabian sent me an offer to save 35% because, as they said, "we miss you". Made me sad, but I still have more of their product to go before I finish. I hope it's still good by late-spring/summer.

    Good afternoon!

    Van der Hagen TTO Razor
    Rockwell DE Blade (?)
    Omega Pro 49 Boar Brush
    Proraso Green SS and AS
    Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 30 hrs

Well, I am going to service soon so I thought I do a nice, quick DE razor shave.
I decided to use VDH razor because I have finally got to appreciate this mild razor because of my recent focus on it. I really don't have to extol the performances of the Pro 49 and Proraso soap because they are consistently, very good.
Two passes a pickups gave me a BBS shave. There wasn't any blood or irritation as well. Finished with my usual postshave ritual and I still feel the menthol tingling. Have a great afternoon.

    Awesome Saturday shave.
It has been a busy weekend. We had both grandkids for most of the day Saturday. :happy093:

Also working on kitchen cabinets and several other projects. I did add a nice 6 X 64 inch shelf to the shave den. Why is this shave gear multiplying? :signs002: I needed the shelf.

    Take care everyone!

I appreciate your sentiment, but I also appreciate that you have to take care of business at work and at home.
