SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, APRIL 21, 2021

This morning’s mug shave was excellent. The Witte Copperhead 6/8 straight has always been a terrific shaver. When I received it several years ago there was a note in the coffin box it arrived in - “Honed by Henerey 1939”. Well, not to offend Mr. Henerey, rest his soul, I reset the bevel on this Solingen Steel blade. And it has really held its edge. It’s only needed one touch up, and has been maintained since on the constroption. Two and a half passes and all was right with the world.

While I enjoy shaving my noggin with both DE’s and SE’s, my preference is for SE’s. Today’s tool of choice was my Ever Ready Streamline. This SE is truly a masterpiece. It houses a Gem blade. But the kit itself includes the safety razor, a strop, and a stropping tool. Since my preferred blade is the PTFE coated SS Pella Gem, I've only used the latter two a few times early on with carbon steel Gem blades. This morning’s dome shave featured the two usual ATG passes and I’m glassine smooth from noggin to neck.

RAZOR: A. Witte Copperhead 6/8 (Mug), Ever Ready Streamline (Dome)
BLADE: Pella PTFE SS Gem (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE #005 Aluminum Handled SynBad Knot
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Osage Rub and Cremo Cooling Post Shave Balm.

Excellent shave this morning gentlemen. It has been a while since the Col. Conk soaps have come out to play.

    Take care everyone!

Thanks, Danny! It’s going much slower than I’d like. SWMBO has enlisted my daughter-in-law, Ben’s wife, to keep me from having fun! Dang women treating me like I’m made of glass! My son and grandson are both in on the deal! :(

Great photo and shave, Barry! I really appreciate your honest evaluation of Feather DE blades. Although they’re my DE blade of choice, I realize they’re not for everyone! Then again, not everyone using them has 75 yr old face leather and Kevlar whiskers stubble to contend with daily with the exception of my old buddy, Terry @Terry, who used to hang out on this thread. Four uses is really stretching it for me with Feathers. I usually toss them after two.

Lovely shave kit, Daniel. TOBS Peppermint has a nice scent, but the TOBS line of soaps never worked out for me, unfortunately. Found the post shave too drying, but then again MWF has pretty much spoiled me for any other soap, although I really like the Castle Forbes Creams.

    good morning gents
fine 2 passer with the second use of the 'crat jr
the gsb blade started tiring during the last few strokes, but no issues.
i am going to start using a razor for the life of the blade from here on in,
instead of switching the blade into my next razor pick.,less mucking about.
so new blade into a razor,3-4 shaves, then new razor and blade.
    something different.
    ***
the barbus soap is excellent,i would recommend it to anyone, nice with the alt innsbruck a/s
    slick and richly dense lather.
    fabulous.
    have a great day everyone

A very nice Throwback Thursday shave this morning.. Stoylin Spice was the feature. At the loading dock, I couldn't get a rythm going at first, which upset me. Later on though the rhythm returned, and I was set to paint my face and neck.Good solid job of doing that. During the first pass, I noticed two New Yorkers(Knicks), one on each side of Porcupine Alley. That was sad, but I hoped the cold-water rinse and aftershave would take care of them, But I had a long wway to go before that-time to keep on shaving. No problems anywhere else, and a good second pass. I fear my Ingrown Swamp area (at N. Cactus) has expanded northwards to my jawline-must look into this tomorrow. The rest of Cactus was fine. ASs I had hoped, the rinse and A.S. got the Knicks. The aftershave was quite tingly, but it only lasts a short while. It helps to think of my "manly man" the late Jack Palance in his Skin-Bracer ad, as he says "That's the tingle" in describing SB's initial face feel. Course SB is a "cool" tingle-not so Stoylin Spice. Will give this one a "Most Excellent".

    Good morning!

    Vander der Hagen TTO
    Rockwell DE Blade (?)
    MrEE LE #10 Cashmere Brush
    Razorock Classic SS
Pinaud Clubman Vegetal AS Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 24.5 hrs

I could have put off my shave until this evening, but I decided to do it now. As they say,"There's no time like the present." Brought out the Razorock SS because it's next on my Fitzgerald project. I will be using it for every shave until it is gone.
The soaps almond/cherry scent is gone and now has a chemical scent. Fortunately, it is not off-putting to me. It still makes a slick lather.

I brought out my mild VdH razor just to give my face a break and to have an easy shave. Did 2 passes with buffing to get a nice, close, and. comfortable shave. There was not any incidents to report. Alum feedback was minor on the neck. Hit my face with witch hazel and the Veg. Face and neck feel great. Take care.
