I decided to bin the Dorco after nine shaves. I noticed a drop in efficiency, and I want to avoid over- shaving and ingrown hairs, so that was it for that particular blade. I'm impressed how long it lasted!

Todays shave was good, but I didn't aim for the closest shave, though it was still easily close enough. Very comfortable too. And the menthol was great.

    Have a great day, gentlemen!

That's a lot of shaves from one blade!...When i use a Dorco i normally bin after 4 shaves max, for face shaving, head shaving 2 max.

I usually bin blades much sooner than this, maybe at five shaves or so. But these do seem to have better longevity than some other blades that I've tried!

The fact that the blade lays flat makes this razor different from any that I already have. Also, it looks like good quality with stainless and brass. I imagine I will feel the blade more with this razor. I also really like my other Italian made razors. The Fatip open comb slant is a fav and I did try the wood handle Fatip after I finally got it apart (it separated at the head instead of the handle so, I had to send it back but, I did get a nice shave from it first. I should have the replacement soon.) I most likely won't start with a Feather blade tho.

I am not sure what happened but, this cream is more towards liquid than any other creams in a tub I have tried. I tried to simply wet the brush and dip into the cream and lather on my face. REALLY bad! So, I tried adding more water and lather in the bowl....nope! I have never had so much difficulty with a cream! I have no problems with the Proraso from the tube and this stuff is the same consistency. Could be me trying out something different went wrong and I couldn't correct it. It remained slime dripping from my brush, face, and razor!

I got slimed! But, I did get a close shave!

Very nice shave Daniel. I believe getting BBS shaves every time out isn't always necessary. Have a nice afternoon!

. Sounds like you might be a “cap rider”. That is placing the cap flat against the shave surface with the handle perpendicular, and then slowly tilting the handle down until blade contact is first made. The newer shaver is then instructed to maintain lightness of touch and that same angle for the rest of the shave. If so, the razor sounds designed for the procedure. Many newer wet shavers are counseled to “ride the cap”. It’s also a great way to manage one’s way into using Feather blades as well. The new razor is certainly nice looking! Have a great day!

sounds like that cream may not require as much water. Are you sure it wasn’t a brushless cream like Cremo Original?

Thanks, Joe! I never aim for BBS. A lot of my facial hair grows flat against the skin, and its easy to get ingrowns, so WTG and XTG is all I do. Sometimes just WTG and some touch-ups, depending on how I feel.

    Enjoy your day!
Thanks, Jeff! Have a great day!

I never have rode the cap. I seem to find the correct angle right away. I had no problems using my Gillette Slim set as open as it can go and didn't cut myself. Same with my other adjustables. I do maintain a very light touch. Especially on my upper lip! I am nicking myself a lot less now. I do like to feel the blade. But, I doubt I will ever go to a straight razor. Too much work to maintain the edge of a straight razor. These safety razors get me close to that feel of a straight razor. Close enuff for me.

For today's shave, I went with Sir Hare whipped in my bowl with my Silver Tip synthetic brush. Easily whipped to tons of lather and doesn't need as much soap to get there! I found a sliver of the soap still in the bowl when I did cleanup so, I put it back into the jar! Proraso white pre-shave cream.

Razor was my Parker 94R with 4th use of the Treet "Carbon Steel" blade. I may even try for another shave or 2 with this blade!

Finished with Proraso balm & after shave splash.

I got another good close shave with this blade. No cuts, nicks, or razor burn from alum bar. Yes, I think I will try to see how far I can push these blades.

Also, I managed to get real close on my upper lips with no leakers! It's all about how much pressure to use. I can get away with more pressure along my cheeks and jawline but, the upper lip needs almost no pressure at all. Barely touching worked well. Nice and close!

I have never used a brushless cream. When I ordered this cream, I thought I was ordering soft soap like the other Captain's Choice I have purchased. I wasn't paying close attention.
I will try spooning a small amount into my bowl and whipping like the stuff from the tube.

I like face lathering with hard soaps and decided to try it with this cream and had bad results.

    Gem MMOC
    GEM SE Blade (fresh)
    Omega Pro 49 Boar Brush
    Razorock Classic SS
    Old Spice AS
    Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 35 hrs

I decided to use the GEM MMOC for my maiden shave with it.
I heavily loaded the brush to give me a nice, thick, slick and creamy lather. It looks like I may have one more shave with the soap and it will be kaput.
I have read that some shavers found that it was difficult to find the proper angle. Surprisingly, I found it right away. The blade is deceptively sharp and it felt like it wasn't cutting despite the audio feedback. However, two passes gave me a very near BBS shave without touchups and without bloodshed.

This is an aggressive razor so light pressure is very important while shaving with it. I did change my technique on my second pass by doing a partial against and across the grain near my jawline and cheeks. My assessment of this razor is that the closeness of the shave is comparable to a straight one. I am glad it has a place in my den thanks to Joe @JACarbone.
Finished the shave with the soothing witch hazel and the Old Spice aftershave. I think I will do a headshave and faceshave with this razor the next time I use it. Have a wonderful day.

SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, APRIL 27, 2022

I'm a guy who likes variety, and will rarely, if ever, shave with the same tool on consecutive days. But my mug shave with the F. Herder 49 15/16 “Ace of Spades” straight razor yesterday was so good, that I just had to bring it back this morning to see if yesterday was a fluke! Well guess what! It sure wasn’t! Two and a half passes put the baby not just to bed, but into a coma, leaving my mug amazingly smooth.

Since I’d had the same experience on my noggin a few days ago with my Ever Ready Streamline, I grabbed that to maintain this morning’s flow! The Streamline is without doubt my most efficient Gem razor. Two ATG passes completed the perfection of this morning’s shave. And even better, SWMBO left early this morning for a three day business conference. So it was time to break out the Creed Aventus! It’s going to be a very aromatic three days. And hopefully my TR6 transmission will be arriving in the next few days. The MG Midget transmission mistakenly sent to me is scheduled to ship out this afternoon.

I've also invited three buddies over tonight for poker and single malt. As much as I adore my bride, she’s a good church-going lady who doesn’t approve of these particular guys! “Uncouth” is how she likes to describe them. We used to hunt together and with our sons for over 40 years. One of them’s a bit younger and can still hunt. I usually do breakfast with them a day or two a week, but we rarely get a chance to play cards. What’s that make me? Even better, one of them’s bringing over some Cohiba Behike 52’s. We’ll have to enjoy them on the deck. The bride has a nose like my dachshund! Enjoy your shaves!

RAZOR: F. Herder 49 15/16 (Mug), Ever Ready Streamline (Dome)
    BLADE: Pella PTFE Gem
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Rooney Ebony Pure Badger
    SOAP: Fine Accoutrements’s Snake Bite
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Fine Accoutrements’s Snake Bite AS Splash and Creed Aventus.

Awesome shaves Jeff! The Ace of Spades is definitely a great straight razor. I have to do a honing on mine when I get around to it.. Anyway, it sounds like you're going to have a great time with the guys this evening.

Superb shave Joe!...The Gem MMOC is wonderful for head shaving..Using the lightest of touch, adjusting to find your shaving angle, and as always treating the razor with the respect it deserves, you'll be rewarded with some excellent head shaves...It's my most assertive SE vintage razor...I love the audio feedback from SE razors, it tells me i've found the correct shaving angle, and it's cutting through my stubble.
