SOTD WEDNESDAY MORNING, MAY 4, 2022

This morning’s mug shave featured the Saito SK3, one of my favorite Japanese straight razors. The full hollow grind on this smiling blade really belted out the “Buttering Toast” song during my three pass shave this morning. This little Saito straight is just a great shaver. My son, Ben has the full series - SK1, SK2 and SK3, all NOS - as part of his huge Japanese straight collection. Unfortunately, they are display queens, which seems criminal to me. This razor was supposedly just a user, but he never shaved with it. He gave it to me for my birthday a few years ago. I certainly enjoy using it!

Although I’ve shaved my head with a straight, the arthritis in my shoulders and arms make doing the back of my dome painful and problematic. Because of this issue, I use a safety razor, and learned quite some time ago that two ATG passes clears the stubble right down to the scalp line. If given my druthers, I’ll always take an SE over a DE, despite getting good noggin shaves with both. Before my Shake Sharps and my Speed Razor/Shavers, my absolute favorite vintage SE was my Schick E Type, and this morning’s noggin shave reminded me why! Just a remarkable two pass shave leaving me porcelain smooth from noggin to neck.

RAZOR: Saito SK3 (Mug), Schick E Type Injector (Dome)
    BLADE: Supply Seki Black Injector
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
    BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.

    good morning gents.
another fabulous shave with the tech hybrid/nacet combo.
smooth 2 passer in the usual manner,no issues.
i have to say, this soap is absolutely fantastic, the best razo-rock product i have used to date.i bought this soap well over 3 years ago when i bought their santa maria del fiore and dead sea sets.it was called the "project unlabeled", lightly scented, easy to lather, super slick and rich.i have a few razorock offerings, their usual TFS line of croaps like xxx,don marco, lime, puros, alchemy and such,.excellent stuff.but this unlabeled wins hands down, most residual slickness and better post shave feel.sadly it's unavailable at present.hope it comes back.
nice menthol kick of the chiseled face natural aftershave to finish.will use the gillette balm before work.excellent also.
    have a great day gents.:eatdrink047:

Another terrific Tech shave! I really like that AS as well! Have you tried Osage Rub? If you like CF Natural, you’ll surely appreciate the “Rub”! :)

Gary, the shave angle will come with continued practice and muscle memory. Straight shave lore says one needs about 100 shaves for comfortable expertise. I think it varies, but on average was true for most of us. Enjoy your shaves, and take your time. Rushing through a shave doesn’t bode well for a new open edge shaver, although shave length does lessen with time. Some of us though really enjoy stretching things out! This old guy sure does! :eatdrink013:

Agreed as well, Joe! I own four of his brushes plus a 15 piece safety razor stand and a single straight razor stand.

on a side note..this soap formula could easily be the test formation of razorock's new super formula line they now use,i think my don marco is this formula as it 's my most recent purchase of their product, from 8 months ago.
