Great to see you guys are still posting the amazing razors from your collections. I had a health blip, not unusual at 75, but I hope to be back and posting either tomorrow or in the next few days!

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, MAY 6, 2022

Woke up to a light rain that my Dark Sky app tells me will continue nonstop through Sunday morning. Last night I took one of my favorite razors, the Alexis Witte Copperhead 6/8, which has always maintained a quite serviceable edge, and ran it through a combo I’m really starting to appreciate, the Naniwa 12k followed by the Suehiro 20k with a finish on the 4 sided pasted constroption. The blade steel on this Witte is awesome! Just a fantastic three pass mug shave this morning. It felt like the whiskers were melting away.

I picked up another A. Witte bearing an “Over the Top” mark on the auction site last night for $11. It looks to be in good condition. The Alexis Witte Cutlery Co. had offices in both Germany and the US. They operated from a factory at 81 Warren St. in lower Manhattan from the 1880’s moving to a new factory in Brooklyn in 1917 where they continued to produce razors and scales until 1930. The company produced razors under the Classic, Witte, Hustler, Copperhead, Goldbug, Over the Top, Solace, Lily, and Beauty marks. The Great Depression put an end to their business.

RAZOR: A. Witte Copperhead 6/8 (Mug), Gillette Single Ring [1905] (Dome)
    BLADE: Kai DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Aluminum Handled Monster Synth
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Royall Lyme AS/Cologne.

The smell at the sink was awesome. And this was the first edge off another new small Okudo… lovely.

Gorgeous Dutch point Filly, Steve! Most of the Filly’s I’ve seen are square points.

Lovely razor, Hans! Would you ever consider building a razor stand like yours for an old man in the US. :D

Some people like Shavettes, but I like the feel of a Straight Razor. Smoother, and more forgiving.

They are fancy. It looks even better, when the green in them isn't worn. FWE's are fantastic razors.

Important: the artisan is in the Ukraine and warns of disrupted shipments and extended shipping times, although the knife stand I bought from him has apparently been shipped. If I don’t get the stand, the price is just my meager contribution to the regular folks there.

Thanks, Steve! I just ordered his last one. I feel the same way! If it doesn’t get here, he’s welcome to do with the funds what’s necessary!
