Testing the last of the Mikawa nagura, the cubical piece was actually acquired last November, but was badly oiled so it’s spent the time since then in a jelly jar of alcohol, with the alcohol getting swapped out about every week. It’s a good piece of rock, and had a koma stamp on it (no Asano stamps) but not quite as fine as the other two unstamped that I posted elsewhere. The Capes can now be final finished.

Razor, Cape 1000, brush SOC boar, cream SMN, AS Myrsol Agua Balsamica.

Another beautiful razor, Tom! You must have a separate wing in the house for your awesome razor collection! Or specialized security tools that keep the majority of the collection out of SWMBO’s sight! ;)

Thanks guys - he’ll be entering pilot training which was his goal - it’s very difficult to qualify for that but he made it so there was a lot to celebrate in addition to his A&A engineering degree. BTW - the shave held up wonderfully. :happy036:

Unfortunately he did not hold up as well, he came down with Covid the day after. He had tested negative the day before. He says he’s feeling much better now. Fortunately mom and dad have tested negative twice in the last 48 hours. :happy088:

The other recent arrival from @gssixgun sporting new shoes and a malachite wedge. Wonderful follow up shave to the CVH MK32. This razor was a bit of lagniappe from @lindyhopper66 but needed new scales. I really like this razor :happy036:

Only the second shave, with this razor, since I restored it. I dug it out of the pile, gave it a couple of laps on the strop, and it delivered a perfectly smooth 2 pass shave, the left me BBS. Zero issues. Very well made American razor.

Razor- "The Blacky". Union B.S. Co. Baltimore Md.
Brush- The Brush "B-400", by Tom(@twhite ). Omega Boar knot.
Soap- Taylor of Old Bond Street(TOBS) "Eaton College"
Aftershave- Vintage Shulton Old Spice. Mmmmm Mmmmm Goood.

The Cape 1000s got refinished using a new tomo from a stone that I just cut up. The hone makes a very sharp edge that shaves incredibly well, but using my fave hard tomo, the edge can be aggressive. This tomo is a little softer but still full razor finishing grade as I tested the whole stone several times, and seems to have smoothed the edge out a bit.

Soap was MdC fougere lathered with a Semogue Mistura, for Mistura May and MdC Monday. A splash of Floris 89 topped things off.

The wayward Pipe returns after a rehone and examination by Glen. He didn’t detect any problems with the steel but I’ll be keeping an eye on it. If it doesn’t start to degrade after a few shaves I’ll have to assume I somehow, somewhere dinged it. Smooth and clean now :happy088:

Jeff, the steel quality is very important to make a good knife. However the big trick is how you hardening the steel. Sweden have for a long time been in the front line making top notch steel for various applications. Very much thanks to our iron ore that is the purest in the world . Besides our two biggest export goods for a long time was iron / steel and wood.

Hans, I guess that’s been true ever since the Viking era, although in those days the wood was in the form of shields and the steel in the form of swords or axes! ;) Enjoy your shaves, my friend!

Today’s shave was to see if I can match a better tomo to my stone, and there was an improvement. Filarmonica 14 Sub Cero, soap was MdC rose lathered with an Oscar11-handled Zenith boar, and Harris Pink finished up a rosy shave.
