Friday morning: Stirling Mentholated Pre Shave Soap Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole Wilkinson Sword/Shark day 3 MSC Cherry Freeze SS Prep ASB Alt Innsbruck AS Splash Bleu de Chanel Deodorant Stick Bleu de Chanel Parfum There are two versions of this Cherry Freeze - a glycerine one and a tallow one. This morning I used the tallow one and this soap is absolutely fantastic. The scent is so fruity and nice, the lather is so thick, rich, super slick, cushiony, and protective, the menthol sensation isn’t overwhelming but it’s still very pleasant, and it’s got great skincare. The Prep gave me lots of additional love, and the Alt Innsbruck aftershave went on icy cold - its beautiful scent doesn’t interfere with the Bleu de Chanel. Now I’m really enjoying this Wilkinson Sword razor - it helped me get a picture perfect three pass BBS shave! Enjoy your weekend - be well and safe! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, MAY 27, 2022 As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I really like Japanese razors. The little Pechika 3/8 delivered a superb shave, but the jewels of my collection are my two Iwasaki straight razors. Both crafted from good, hard Swedish steel and featuring scales provided by the master, Tanifuji Fukutaro (1894-1990), who crafted all the scales for Iwasaki western style razors at their Sanjo Works from the early 1950’s until his retirement in 1973. This pretty much marked the end of Iwasaki western style razors, although they still build highly prized, distinctive looking Kamisori razors for the western and domestic markets. Artem’s beautiful Elm Burl straight razor stand finally arrived from Ukraine yesterday. So I had to feature it in today’s post with my most recently acquired Iwasaki 9/16, with the not so common English name on the tang. The razor had been hard-used in a Japanese barbershop for decades, but after some TLC and a rebuilt bevel, this little beauty delivered a marvelous mug shave. Three slow luxurious passes put the baby to bed, leaving your happy narrator blissfully smooth! The dome shave featured my French Spadson. Waits Compendium has no information on this company, although the heavy OC head design would seem to point to somewhere in the second or third decade of the twentieth century. The handle included with the razor was damaged and didn’t securely clamp the head securely. Thus my first shaves with this razor two or three years ago weren’t pleasant. However, I discovered that my French Famex handle worked beautifully, and my shaves since adopting it have been “divine” as a UK shave buddy (@palmolive fox) has been known to say. Two passes left me velveteen smooth from noggin to neck. RAZOR: Iwasaki 9/16 (Mug), French Spadson (Dome) BLADE: Suneko (Dome) PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a heavy scrub with Argan Oil BRUSH: Simpson Chubby 3 Sovereign Fibre SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Lilac Vegetal.

SE dual shave, Friday, May 27th 2022. I recently bought a Yaqi Katana SE head on sale and received 2 excellent shaves with this razor and thought I would compare it to my Yaqi V2 Excalibur SE AC 50mm razor that I enjoy using and use it regularly. To be frank about the results for these 2 razors they shave very similar and I'm very pleased with results. I would say they are a tame mid>mid range razors & could be daily drivers for some folks IMO. Razor :Yaqi Katana SE, Mfg 2021> uses 1/2 DE blade, nice tame mid>mid range, I load the top cap first with half blade and then the base plate and then clamp with fingers and then lightly snug handle and then bump blade with blade box for final alignment works well. No big alignment deal but it could be a little frustrating for some. Very affordable SE razor for folks who are looking for a good inexpensive SE razor to start out with IMO. Razor: Yaqi V2 Excalibur AC 50mm- Mfg 2021> uses AC 50mm blades, tame mid range, unique blade clamping, takes any AC 50mm blade, some manual adjustment of the top cap to safety bar, not a big deal for most folks. Very small head parts to assemble( I work above a wash cloth works well for assembly) but the results are worth the effortless shave in IMO. A very close comfortable shave mostly, more pricier blades than the 1/2 DE blades. Blade :Gillette Astra SP half blade (2) sharp & smooth with great longevity. Blade: Schick Pro-line AC 50mm (2)- sharp & smooth with reasonable longevity. Soap : Razorock Don Marco- nice citrus scent with excellent lather qualities. Brush : Yaqi Sagrada Familia 22mm 2band badger, excellent lather generator, soft pillow like tips, nice scrubber + great lather painter. Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area. Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups. Post shave : Italian barber Amici with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless). Results :CCS,DFS,BBs + no irritation + no weepers= Excellent shaves with my Yaqi Katana & Yaqi V2 Excalibur SE razors with a 1/2 blade Astra + a Schick proline Have some great shaves!
Three shaves in and I’m happy with the results so far. The razor came with five blades. Given the good price I decided to take a chance on purchasing 100 of them and I’m glad I did. I’m getting very little to no feedback with my alum block. If I use that as a measuring stick then I would rate the RK’s slightly ahead of the Astra Sp’s.
