Thanks Michael! Just wandered in here from the two other boards. I kind of like the colour scheme of this site best. Jimmy, who had forgotten to mention the following soaps in his faves list: - Mama Bear (Hydrogen rocks, Lavender is great also) - Chelsea's Soap Garden (Burberry is to die for) - Palmolive stick (thanks to Crackstar for the reminder)

Way too many to list. I do enjoy quite a few whether they're triple milled, cold-poured, glycerin, or tallow.
I find soaps much superior to creams, I find that in all aspects (lather, scent, skincare and price) a cream gets beaten by a nice well made soap... But as always... things might be different for others..
I have 31 creams and 38 soaps. In truth I judge the individual product and not a class of products. Sometimes, I can judge by a manufacturer's line of products. It depends on quality, scent, lather, glide, cushion and moisturizing. Which reminds me, I need to add a ratings table to my database of products. A simple would buy again is all I use now. Since, I'm not going to be buying much more soaps and creams, I'm going to start using a standard 3 day setup to review my soaps and creams and start weeding some out. I'm using 3 days since that is my normal blade use cycle.
In order of preferance: 1-Mama Bear's "Rosemary/Mint" 2-Tabac 3-Mama Bear's "Green Irish Tweed" 4-Honeybee Spa "Drakkar" 5-Colonel Conk "Amber" One soap that ranks down at #6,782 on my list is Arizona Goat Milk Soap Company. I received a free sample of their shave soap yesterday, and it's absolutely atrocious. I couldn't get a lather for ten minutes, and when I did, all it was was this airey bubbly concoction that looked and felt like some cheap aerosol slop. In fact, I'd use the aerosol before I used this stuff. The only thing worse than the lather it produced, was the god awful scent that it has. It smells like a cross between ten day old sewage and rotten pineapples. AVOID!!!
Do you have hard water? Creams generally speaking will be easier to lather than soaps in hard water. IIRC, you have a BK12 like I do. Here's how I do soaps: I have a separate lathering bowl. I put 2-3 tablespoons of nearly boiling soft water on top of the soap puck while I shower. Then, pour this water/soap soup into the lathering bowl. Soak the brush in the soft water, shake close to dry, and then swirl over the softened top of the soap puck to pick up some soap without really starting to lather. Finally, move the brush to the lathering bowl and start. You can build all the lather in the bowl, or just go partway and then finish lathering on your face. Add water as needed, of course. I find it helpful to always use the measuring spoon, so that once I hit on the best water/soap combination, I have a chance of repeating it!
Mama Bear with QED in close second I havent really had any money to try any of the high end triple milled soaps.
Thomas, I find I'm becoming more of a soap man also these days, but I still love the creams I've got. My ratio lately is around 55% soaps to 45% creams.
1. Nah....I already know I did good, as always. Seriously though, it wasn't just me. 2. Welcome to The Shave Den, Jimmy! 3. Favorite soap- my own
