I just had one of the finest shaves ever with the Hawk SE. I put a ProGuard blade in it and the razor was very gentle. Tomorrow I will use a Light blade. Nice heft to the razor. You do have to handle the blade to load it but, I had no problems. There is no blade overhang at all. Nicely machined stainless. Very sure grip as well. It was easy to find the correct angle. Pretty much "Ride the Cap" with this one.

I also am trying out a new AS that pairs with one of my fav soaps. Chiseled Face "Sherlock soap & After Shave. Smell the pepper with this soap. That smell stood out for me. Nice and slick too!

I could have stopped at 1-pass but, it was so nice I did a 2-pass shave. WTG & ATG. The blade has 4 shaves on it now and still no tugging.

No cuts, nicks, or errors. No feedback at all from the alum bar. Very Nice! I could shave every day with this razor if I had to choose one.

I can't wait to try the GEM and the Micromatics.

Assured for Men Razor by Dollar Tree
Assured for Men DE Blade (1)
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
    Stirling Barbershop SS
    Pinaud-Clubman Classic AS
    Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 24 hrs

I decided to try my new very low budget razor today, the Assured for Men. It is a 3 piece razor with a long handle and is very light. I mentioned in a previous post that I purchased it at my local Dollar Tree store for $1.36 and it included five blades.
I didn't want to test this razor with more than a 24 hr growth so that I wouldn't tax it and almost guarantee a viable shave. In that vain, I decided to use Stirling Barbershop because I know that it's lather will be slick to help this razor and maybe minimize any roughness from the blade.

I did 2 passes and a touchup and I have to say that this razor and blade did a bangup performance. I achieved a BBS shave without any irritation or bloody incidents. I will say that I was a little more careful using this razor because of an unknown blade brand. The blade was sharp, but it wasn't as smooth as other blades in my den, but I expected it and that's why I took a more gentler approach to this shave. This shave does prove that technique trumps tools.
I would recommend this razor for travel. I can't wait to use this razor with a better blade.
The alum did give some feedback, but I wasn't surprised because I wasn't shaving with a very good blade. Finished with the splashing of witch hazel and the awesome Pinaud-Clubman Classic aftershave. Have a great evening.

Thanks Gary! I may have premium razors, but I do appreciate the budget ones as well. However, I will say that it is nice to treat yourself to a top tier item whether, it be a razor, brush, soap or aftershave. I just don't make a habit of it. Lol!

Excellent shave Joe...It just goes to show that you can get a good shave with very low budget shaving products..I was passed on two Ying jili 8306L. ( 7'0clock Stirling tech copy ), which are identical to your Assured for Men Razor, of which I will have to dig one out and add it to my razor rotation for future shaves..."Technique trumps tools.

Thanks Barry. It really is cool to get an excellent shave with a very inexpensive razor. Hope you find your low budget razor and get a nice shave with it. Take care.

I think I have found my perfect razor! I had another phenominal shave today with the Razorock "Hawk" with a light blade. I can't wait to try the Professional blades. I may have to even give the Super Professional blades a try. This razor is amazing! Not a single cut, nick, or error. No burn at all from the alum bar.

I used the same setup as yesterday except for the blade.
Proraso White pre-shave. "Sherlock" the soap whipped with my Classic Shaving synthetic brush in my Shave Nation lather bowl. This soap whips easy. In less than a minute, I had tons of lather for a 3-pass shave. I enjoyed the shave so much I did a 3-pass shave today even tho 2-pass would have been fine. I did WTG, ATG, and sideways to the grain. VERY smooth and close! No feedback at all from alum bar!

I used the last of the lather to wash my face and head and also used the Hawk on my dome! Rinsed and applied a dab of Proraso AS Balm and a splash of "Sherlock" AS. I really like the soap and AS combo. I get a whiff of the scent thru the day. REALLY nice!

I hope all had as great a shave as I did today! I am totally sold on the Razorock "Hawk". I highly recommend it!
