I got the Feather Professional blades so, I hadta use the Hawk to try out the blades. I was rewarded with another VERY fine shave with the Hawk. I am totally sold on this razor! Mitchell's Wool Fat Monday. Very nice lather and scent. Very slick. Whipped in my lather bowl after blooming the soap with the brush that I brought back from the brink of the trash bin. It still loses a few hairs every time I use it so, it prolly won't be long before it hits the bin. I have plenty of brushes. MWF is always nice! I used Proraso white pre-shave cream and then worked the brush on my face to work the lather into the beard. I did a 2-pass shave but could have stopped with a single pass. This razor is very efficient with these blades. I did manage to nick myself on my neck and chin but, nothing major. I did WTG and ATG. First shave with a VERY sharp blade so, the next should be a bit tamer. The shave was most pleasant! The alum bar raised minimal feedback. Washed face with remaining lather from the bowl and brush and let it remain on my face while I cleaned brush and bowl. Finished with "Clubman" AS and a tiny dab of Proraso balm. I hope all have a fine shave and day!
Awesome shave Hogie. I have never replaced a knot, but it can be done. However, I have put in a new knot in a new handle. There are videos to illustrate how to change a knot so that you can reuse the handle. If you go that route, Maggard's have some reasonably priced knots.
Thanks, Joe! Yes, I am thinking of trying my hand at replacing this knot. I will have to measure the handle. I think knots are measured in metric (Millimeters) while I am old school inches and fractions. This brush was not well cared for before I got it and I think the knot is well along in deteriorating. I did manage to bring it back but, the damage was done before I got the brush. You should have seen it when I got it! All the bristles were stuck together on one side like it dried with it laying on the bristles. It was in dire need of some conditioner. I used my bath shampoo and some conditioner I have. It helped but, I think the glue that holds the knot together is rotten from past bad care.
SE Shave # 261 - MICROMATIC & DARKFALL MONDAY Rating: 5 / 5 Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb Blade: GEM Stainless Brush: Shore Shave Creamsicle Swirl 24 mm White Synthetic Lather: Declaration Grooming Darkfall Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Darkfall Additional Care: Stirling Alum Block Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm Thayer’s Witch Hazel - Original We have a beautiful morning following a round of some strong T-Storms overnight. The picture does reflect that with the water bubbles on the granite top of the outdoor kitchen. Once again my Micromatic & Darkfall Monday shave did not let me down. Today’s shave marks the third consecutive day I have used a GEM razor. All three shaves had been flawless and irritation free. I am gradually approaching the end of the container of soap. Yes I will repurchase another tub. I do enjoy the Declaration Grooming soaps. I hope you enjoy you day gentlemen.
I normally don't shave on the third day to give my skin a rest, but I decided that I will shave this evening and tomorrow as well. It will be a rare 4 consecutive days of shaving for me and then rest on Wednesday because I have a special shave planned on Thursday. I will be using a safety razor, but I haven't decided which one.
I too could go for at least 2 days without shaving but, I love the routine so much, I do it every day. So many things to try!
Good work on a Menthol Monday. I'm figuring out that my big brushes are a bit of a struggle working with a small puck like Razorock. I have a smaller brush set for tomorrow-that should be better. But as it was, I got a good soap amount onto the Crown King. Cheeks&sideburns are great, with the exception of that same area on the right that I can't seem to make a habit of completing. Both sides of Porcupine Alley worked out good. The positive thing is that I didn't do any further damage to a cut and polka-dot that were already there. Ditto Cactus Nation(neck)...a cut was there already, but I avoided further damage to help it heal. Boy did I have a shocking reaction to that Glacial Lime A.S..(Stoylin). I shouldn't have-I should be used to it by now. For the closer, I returned to Passion 4 Men cologne. Since there was no further damage to previous issues, I'll give myself a Outta This World Excellent.
I shave 2 out of 3 days. It works best for me. Honestly, my shaves are so close that I can wait up to 40 hrs before I really need to shave. My beard is more white so it doesn't show the growth as much as if I had a darker stubble.
That's a good suggestion Joe...the big one today did get a good amount of the Razorock, but I'll see about getting a mug going(I have a small Old Spice mug). I have a couple sample soaps but I think both would be better in cool/colder weather. Maybe I'll "steal" a cold-weather shave if it cools down some this summer.
You probably can get a coffee mug on the cheap at Dollar Tree or Family Dollar. A few years back, they had the foldable dog food bowls with the raised tabs just like Stirling had. However, they were less expensive at Dollar Tree. Unfortunately, they don't have them in stock. I could kick myself for not buying one.
