Shaving recipe for today.

Prep: Warm shower:/Lynx Africa Body Wash.

Pre:
Cold wet flannel to my face & head.
Pears Transparent Bar Soap.
Brush: Omega 48.
Face Lather.
Lather : Scottish Fine Shaving Soap.
Blade: Ming Shi MP-063.(D1)
Razor: Ming Shi 2000s. (Settings) Face & Head: 3-wtg,3-atg,+pick ups.

Post:
Cold water face & head wash with brush squeezing's, Cold Water Face Rinse./ Homemade (~Spring/Summer mix~) Lemon, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Essential Oils.3 Menthol Crystals Mixed Together With 200ml of Care+Witch Hazel./P&G Old Spice Hawkridge ASL./L'0REAL Barber Club Reinforcing ASB.

A new shave set up to start the weekend...It's been a long time since i used my Ming Shi 2000s. Maiden shave with the Ming Shi MP-063 blade, which came free with the razor....The verdict?....I will be honest and say when ever i get free blades with a razor i normally avoid them like the plague but i was curious to try them out however i did have another tried & tested Chinese made blade on standby just in case the Ming Shi MP-063 felt below the grade and not up to the standard that i require .. After i had done my usual hand-stropping to remove any burrs or imaginary ones from the blade edges, as i do with any new blade before i pair it together with the razor the Ming Shi 2000s razor & blade duo paired together really well they are not the sharpest of blades, but felt smooth and efficient, and most importantly caused no 'blood sport' to the shave performance.

The Ming Shi 2000s razor alone, like most of my more assertive razor's has improved my shaving confidence and technique multitude.

I never thought in a million years I would use such an efficient razor especially for a head shave...practicing my technique has gave me the shaving confidence to do so.

An enjoyable acceptable close face & head shave with errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of L'0REAL Barber Club Reinforcing ASB.

My face and precious swede are feeling smooth & smelling divine.

Lovely shave, Barry! That’s the razor modeled on the Merkur Futur, isn’t it. I remember there having been a bit of an uproar when it was released.

 

I tried another shave with the Hawk and the open comb base plate. After one pass, I was not happy with how it felt. Even riding the cap it growls. So, ater the first pass, I switched back to the standard plate and enjoyed my shave. I did a 2-pass with a little cleanup. Pleasant!

Pre-shave - washed face and warmed beard with hot washcloth. Added a little hot water to cover the MWF soap. Warmed the brush in hot water.

Proraso RED preshave cream.
Mitchell's Wool Fat the soap
Razorock Hawk with a Professional blade (4th )
Brush - Simpson X2 Commodore

While my brush warmed and soap bloomed I applied the preshave cream. Then I poured off the water from the soap and loaded the brush. I decided to do a face lather today and it was nice. As I said the first pass was rough and it did not take much off so, I put the standard base plate back on and did a 2-pass shave that was very nice. WTG & ATG. Minor cleanup on my neck. I do prefer the less aggressive standard plate. The open comb was just way too aggressive for me. At least with the Pro blades. Maybe i will try it with a light blade to see how it is.

Alum bar raised no feedback. No cuts, weepers, or errors today! The razor is very nice with the standard plate and the Professional blades. I may repeat the shave with the standard plate again tomorrow. Very nice.

Geo F. Trumper is good on the face. Pinaud is always nice as well.

Awesome shave Hogie. Sometimes, the pairing of a blade with a razor isn't always compatible with one's skin, beard type, etc. You did the right thing by switching blades. That's just part of the shaving game. Later on in your journey, it may be different and you may be able to use the Feather Pro with the OC plate on the Hawk. Enjoy your day.

 

Very nice, Barry! I have conquered my DE razors but have found a new challenger in the Hawk. I am amazed at how this razor tames the Feather Professional blades when using the Standard base plate. I had no problems shaving with my open comb vintage Gillettes so, I expected the Hawk to be the same with the open comb base plate. It's a beast! Moreso than my Muhle R41! By a longshot! I will give that another go at some point using a light blade. For the weekend, I will stick with the Standard plate. It's such a pleasant shave set up this way. I'm not giving up on the OC tho!

I have not used Stirling’s MITA in a while. While today’s temperatures will be about 15 degrees cooler than yesterday, approximately 70, it is a perfect warm weather scent. Today my son while he having a few friends over this afternoon for a birthday party. Do we spoil him? A resounding yes would be the answer. I am going to have to fire up the pool heater.

As for the shave, the Schick Type G injector, which I believe Barry, @palmolive fox, frequently enjoys, delivered a super close shave. The Classic Shaving Silver Blue badger whipped up a nice slick lather following a 35 second load off of the puck sample and subsequent bowl lathering. In my opinion, the Stirling 1 oz samples are one of the better bargains in the wet shaving community. I have had 16 shaves with this sample. There will be plenty more as I have not even developed a donut hole.

My face feels smooth and refreshed. I hope you have a great day gentlemen.
