Thursday July 11 - sort of patriotic

Had a four-day stubble to mow. Two passes got it done.

TOBS shaving cream always makes a lovely lather with a good scent. This tub was stored with the lid a little loose, so it dried down to 1/4 its original full state. However the remaining croap still lathers up quickly and the scent is still strong. The only difference is that I need to swirl the damp brush in the tub a few times instead of just dipping the tip into the cream to pick up enough product to face lather. The resulting lather still builds on my face just as quickly and is still just as slick as ever.

The blade is still going strong. I estimate it should be good for 15 shaves at least.

The alum was silent. The willow bark toner is nicely astringent and drying in weather that makes my skin feel a little oily.

I used one final product worth mentioning: to rub on the toner, I used a cotton swab/pad made by Last Object called the Last Round. Last Object is a Danish compzny that launched on Kickstarter and is now going strong on its own -- lastobject.com. It makes sustainable and reusable replacements for humble single-use items like cotton swabs for cleaning ears and applying makeup (LastSwab), kleenex tissues (LastTissue), cotton round pads to apply makeup etc (LastRound), and even menstrual pads (LastPad). Its items come housed in plastic containers made from plastic garbage retrieved from the oceans.

The makeup removal round I used today can be laundered or washed and reused up to 1750 times before being discarded and comes in a holder of a dozen or so that pull out of the top and store back in the bottom after rinsing.

The swabs I use save a lot of plastic-shafted cotton swabs going in the landfill. They have a knobby plastic tip on a plastic shaft -- both made of recovered ocean-bound plastic garbage. They can be used and rinsed up to 1,000 times, replacing that many single-use swabs in the landfill.

I use their tissues too. They are cotton hankies that come in a set of 6 in a plastic pocket case or more in a bigger box for tabletop house use. The container dispenses clean ones and stores used ones separately. When they are all dirty, you throw them all in the washing machine with your laundry, then start over again. I have already saved dumping hundreds of paper kleenexes in the garbage/landfill with them.

I highly recommend everyone check out their products. It's an easy change to routine that over time will save a lot of waste in the landfill -- plus save you money!

John, I scratched my head on the day wheel as well. Days are displayed in either English or Arabic. Seems like it would be either Kanji and some other language for a "Made in Japan" model. Interestingly, Seiko sells "Japan Domestic Market" models with Kanji and English day wheels. That tells me that these "Made in Japan" models are simply made for export. They usually command a higher price than Seiko's made in places like China, Malaysia, and Singapore (as I understand).

I doubt there's a nickel's worth of difference in the quality of the watches regardless of where they're made. It all comes down to the fancy label...just like I wear jeans from Wally World, and @Paul Turner only wears Calvin Klein.

There are a ton of different Seiko variants. I've had several Seiko's with English/Spanish day wheels. Here's one with hindi sanskrit hour markers.



And here's a Japan Domestic Market model with the Kanji / English day wheel. I wish mine had this kind of day wheel, but I can't be too choosy at the prices I paid.



The rabbit hole is quite deep with Seiko watches.

Another fabulous shave prior to my meetup with Joe, @Trigger, for our almost monthly LI Chapter of the 30DC meetup. We had to improvise our meeting location as our selected venue, different from the past few meetup location, was closed due to no electric. Apparently the owner has not paid his electric bill for some time.

Once again, Joe and I exhibited one of our many fine Italian traits, the gift of gab. We spent approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes yapping about a variety of shave related topics and other things. Joe wins the coffee consumption title for this meet up. I am sure he had plenty of energy for the gym later in the afternoon.

I had a very nice shave with the Drew Dick razor. Another close and comfortable shave with the usual three passes.
