I would say it's a nice razor with a good track record. You can't go wrong by getting it at the discount. On the other hand, you can use the funds for something else that strikes your fancy. Ultimately, it's your call Danny.

 

It is an amazing razor. I'll just have to think about it for a couple of days. It is pricey but man it a piece of art.

It is cheaper than a stainless steel Karve.

Yes it is.The Tatara is in the $380 range. Personally, if I was going that range for a premier razor, then I would be looking at the new Rex Konsul which is marketed as the world's only adjustable, stainless steel slant. Fortunately, I am satisfied with what I have in my den.

 

I think the $380.00 you mention is for their adjustable. You can get the Masamune with one plate for $129.25 on sale.

This is the first time that I am using The Shave Den Soap. Unfortunately, the scent off the puck was non-existent to my nose. I figured that it may pick up when I lathered it. Again, it wasn't the case. The good thing is that it did lather, but I had to work a little harder to get there. I guess that I am spoiled with Stirling. Lol! The soap was slick, but it was very low structure. It started to dissipate on my neck so I had to add more lather. After the first pass, I decided that because the brush is a notorious lather hog that I may get a better lather so I went with MrEE Tuxedo Brush for my second pass. I added some more soap to the bowl and did get a better lather with this brush. The lather was thicker and creamier, but still was low structure. So if you want a Santa Claus lather, then this brand will not give it to you. I don't know the formula for this base, but it probably doesn't contain tallow and that's why it's a little harder to get a high structure soap.

Did a 2 passer with minor touchups on my neck to get a nice, comfortable, near BBS shave. My skin felt smooth so that's a plus.
The alum provided very little feedback. Witch hazel was applied to tone down my skin. Applied the matching aftershave to end this session. I did get a nice smokey orange scent from the aftershave, but it doesn't hit you in the face. I have taken whiffs off the puck from my other Shave Den Soaps and found the scents mild and therefore, I expect those soaps to have similar scent strength while lathering on my face. The soap is good, but I wish the scent was stronger. Have a great day.

 

I stand and look at all the razors I have aquired in the past 10 months and I say to me..."what happened here!?"
No more razors for Hogie! I have found a few really nice ones. Especially the Hawk and I am still fascinated with the Feather DX.
I should use it again soon.
