30 Day Rule/Focus; August 2022

Great shave Hogie! Glad you like the Cryogen. It does love water. I have heard that it does make the eyes water, but thankfully, I am not affected that way. Also, it's normal to feel the affects of the menthol after the 1st pass because the skin is more exposed. Enjoy your day Hogie.

 

Fine shave this morning. 0:30 at the loading dock with the Crown King brush. Good coverage everywhere-yes, even at the right side jawline(directly under the ear). Funny thing...I'm used to the chill of a Stoylin Glacial soap now whereas in the early days of use, it was....well, read the bottom* 2 passes. No cuts, 2 Knicks** and no Polka-dots. Again, I had to redo the right side of North Porcupine (under right nostril). Cactus Nation turned out great. The Stoylin Bath Soap in the shower is proving to be a fine setup for the shave. Gent's Gin from Doc Pinaud is a nice relaxer of an A.S.Beginning another week of Passion 4 Men cologne. Super-Duper Excellent.

*-OHHHHHNOOOYEOWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

**-The Knicks were wiped out post-shave.

I decided to bring out my old Omega boar brush. This was my second brush that I purchased. The first was in the Van Der Hagen set that started my wet shaving journey.

For some reason I just think the Tatara looks great next to the big boar brush.

Excellent three pass shave thus morning. It is hard to beat the original Fine Soaps.

What's the difference betwen a Boar and a Synthetic...thicker knot for the Boar?

 

I plan on getting back to my open comb razors when the month ends. SO many to choose from!

Paul, I find that synthetic brushes are softer and whips up a lather much more readily than a boar brush. Also, a synthetic brush can be used immediately out of the box whereas a boar needs to be broken in to get a fine performance. It will lose its scritchiness the more you use a boar brush. My Onega 48 is pretty soft for a natural bristle brush. Finally, synthetics are generally less expensive than boar brushes.

 

Thanks Joe....I bet Danny will say the same thing, as I was asking him in particular. All mine are synthetics.

 

Just to clarify: This look is via a barber’s shears buzzed to the lowest setting. I usually don’t shave my head because the missus does not like the feel of it. She prefers a little fuzz to do the “Wish I had a watermelon” routine.

 

Perhaps we can PIF you a few.

Another warm and humid day on tap for LI. Following my wife leaving for worked I started my day with an intense X3Bar Push workout and a dip in the pool to cool off.

The warmth and humidity of the day did not stop me from selecting the soap/splash combination of Darkfall, which has been a staple of my Monday shaves for the past year. At some point in the moth of September Scott of Declaration Grooming will be offering up for sale the Darkfall line. I will be obtaining another tub or two, for both dens, as my current tub will be falling to the fate of the Edmund Fitzgerald by the end of October. Of course it could be sooner if I choose to shave with it a few more times during the week.

I have a fabulous three pass shave with the MMOC. My face feels super smooth and the addition of the Darkfall aftershave liniment only enhanced the feel.

I will be busy doing things around the house including but not limited to spackling the tape of an area of wall that the two dogs decided to inadvertently bust while having one of their patented battle royals and splitting some more firewood.
