I think that is a very wise decision.

Paul, straight shaving looks easy because the shavers have 100's upon 100's of shaves behind them and they also have very good hand coordination. I am all for most people trying an open edge razor. However, if someone constantly cuts themselves with a disposable safety razor, then a straight razor is definitely out of the question. One could get a very deep cut with those bad boys.

    Shaving recipe for today.

Prep: Warm shower:/Asda Mandarin & Lemongrass Extract Shower Gel.

    Pre:
Cold wet flannel to my face & head.
Pears with Mint Extracts Transparent Bar Soap.
    Brush: Omega 10066.
    Face Lather.
    Lather: Tabac Original Shaving Soap.
    Blade: Personna Gem PTFE. (D4)
    Razor: Supply V2.

    Post:
Cold water face wash with brush squeezing's, Cold Water Face Rinse. /Homemade (~Autumn/Winter mix~) peppermint lavender, eucalyptus, + Tea Tree essential Oils Mixed Together With 200ml of Care+Witch Hazel. /Tabac Original ASL. /L'0REAL Barber Club Reinforcing ASB.

    Greetings,

    (Face & Head Shave.)

A new eclectic shave set up to start the Weekend....Second outing of the Omega 10066 boar brush which is wonderful for face lathering...I personally find i get the best results from boar brushes when i face lather. Synthetic brushes are better for bowl lathering. Boar brushes also work better for me when using harder traditional shaving soaps.

A wonderful performance from the Supply V2.

Since my shaving den clean out I've now started to give some attention to shaving products that I've hardly used...It's been a while since i last used the Tabac duo and as always, the performance from the soap & a/s was astounding, a wonderful slick protective lather from the soap with a classic old school scent from this superb old school duo....I have yet to try the new version of the soap, which isn't tallow based.

From my first use of Tabac products i was instantly hooked by the wonderful slick protective lather it created & old school fragrance.

It's one of those soaps that i could quite happily use with every shave, but that would become tedious and making it a mundane routine for me which traditional wet shaving should never become...I know some people have 'love/hate opinions on Tabac products The scent isn't for everyone which i totally understand, but for me personally the fragrance comes second besides once i do my cold water rinse the scent of the lather has virtually gone anyway with the exception of Tabac and a few others.

A close comfortable face & head shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of L'0REAL Barber Club Reinforcing ASB.

My face & precious swede are feeling smooth & smelling divine. ;)

Stay safe, and enjoy the start of the weekend, ladies & gentlemen.

Terrific Tabac shave Barry. I like the scent and performance of Tabac. I haven't used my Tabac stick in months so I will use it sometime before the end of this month. Enjoy your afternoon.

Today will probably be a no shave day. This morning, I will be off to the gym for a light cardio session and afterwards, I will go back home to prepare myself to meet friends out East at Osprey Dominion Vinyards. It was a yearly tradition, but we haven't been back there since Covid. It's a great place because you can bring your own food and they have a live band.

The worry then is the possible result, not the act of executing it, right?(for me)

Single Edge month continues. I got a very pleasant shave with the Hawk v3 OC.

Razor - Hawk v3 with open comb base plate
Blade - Captain Titan Mild (3rd use)
    Pre-shave - Proraso Red
    Soap - Mudder Focker
Brush - Simpson T2 Trafalgar synthetic
Post - Thayers Toner & Geo F Trumper "Skin Food" Sandalwood
AS - Pinaud Clubman Whiskey Woods

Washed face while I warmed bowl and brush with HOT water. This soap is nice and slick and creamy. Easy to whip up. The Mild blade got me clean and close with zero irritation and no cuts. 2-pass shave WTG & ATG. No cleanup. I have gotten good with the Mild blade and when I bin this blade, I wil try with a Professional blade. Riding the cap is the only way to shave and not cut myself with this open comb. You can feel the blade. I see this as more aggressive than what everybody calls "The Beast" (Muhle R41). This is the Beast to me! Me like!

Zero feedback from the alum bar. No cuts, nicks, or errors. Very Nice!

I still recall how this setup cut me several times the first time I tried it. I have tamed the Beast!

Fine shave this morning. Good strong amount of the freezer soap taken. Some Knicks developed during the first pass (2 at North Porcupine, 1 down South). No pain. No problems anywhere else, thus a Knick-free 2nd pass. Good work at the cheeks&sideburns. I did better down at Cactus than I had done in a long time. Happy for that. The Gent's Gin reduced the appearance of all 3 Knicks.(Course the cold-rinse was a factor, too). Very Excellent.

In our private thoughts we are deeply saddened, even though I don't consider myself a royalist, but we need a figurehead, that's what makes our state and commonwealth IMHO. :happy088:

No Paul. It's both executing and the result that is the issue. Why are you so bent on trying a straight or a shavette? In your own words, you said that you have a hard time loading a blade in a DE razor. It's more difficult loading a blade in a shavette because you have to snap the blade in half and then get it set correctly on the pins and then close it shut making sure the blade doesn't move and that it is correctly aligned.
Straights require frequent maintenance. You have to get a strop and learn how to strop your razor which is not easy for someone that doesn't have the proper coordination and therefore, eventually will ruin the strop and consequently dull your edge that much quicker. Also, you have to buy hundreds of dollars of honing stones to sharpen your edge and that requires the ability to change pressure as you progress in higher grits. You have a problem with maintaining pressure on your razor so you will end up ruining a straight on a honing stone. Yes, I suppose that you can send a razor to a honemeister, but you are going to pay at least 25 to 30 dollars every time and that's not going to include shipping.
For all of the above reasons, shavettes and straights are not recommended for you.
Maybe if you had a streak of 3 months of not cutting yourself with your disposable, then I could see you moving on to DE or SE safety razors, but open blade razors is a disaster waiting to happen for you. I am sorry if I sound so abrupt, but I don't want any one getting hurt because they overextended their abilities.
