SE Shave # 278 -MICROMATIC DARKFALL MONDAY

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb
    Blade: GEM Stainless (5)
Brush: Wolf Whiskers 24 mm Maggard Tux Synthetic
    Lather: Declaration Grooming Darkfall
    Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Darkfall
    Additional Care:
    Declaration Grooming Darkfall EdT
    Stirling Alum Block
Declaration Grooming Aftershave Liniment - Darkfall
    Humphreys Cucumber Melon Witch Hazel

I had a fabulous shave this morning prior to my LI Chapter of the 30DC with Joe, @Trigger. Once again the MMOC delivered an exceptional close shave. I love the Darkfall soap and scent presented by Declaration Grooming. Since this tub is on it’s last legs I will be picking up another tub when Scott of DG releases it later this month.

Once again Joe and I spent close to three hours discussing a variety of topics. I brought my newly acquired C-MON Special for Joe to admire. He did! Joe brought three tubs of soap and splash he obtained from The Shave Den, Shave Den brand. The scents of the software were as follows: Citrus, Barbershop and Irish Green. To my nose, the scents of the three were very faint to almost nonexistent.
The Citrus soap had a slight burnt Orange scent which I do not mind.
The Barbershop scent was a barely noticeable.
The Irish Tweed could easily be considered an unscented soap.

I know Joe had previously expressed concern over the lack of scent in these soaps. Perhaps it was his nasal passages that may have been challenged. I can concur that I have the same impression which is a same because they are reasonably priced. Perhaps he received a bad batch. Wait for it………but in three different soaps?

As usual, almost three hours few by during breakfast. I even had the opportunity to watch Joe “smooze” one of the waitresses during a lengthy discussion on a variety of topics. It was a pleasant and enjoyable exchange. Not bad for a 67 year old.

    Here you go Joe! :happy097:

I love the shave picture! This is the first time I have seen a manual for the MMOC.
What a great idea of using a Sharpie to mark the number of shaves. I may start doing that on my GEM style blades.

Excellent shave Joe! It was a great meeting as always. Thanks for confirming that the TSD scents on the soaps and aftershaves were nonexistent to very, very, faint. At first, I thought it was my nose, but apparently it wasn't. It's a shame because if the scents were more pronounced, then I would continue to purchase them because the lathers were slick.
By the way, I wasn't schmoozing with that waitress. I was just being nice. Now, the one that served us was worth schmoozing. Lol!

At my age, and with more than one blade going, I would not be able to keep track otherwise! LOL
    Thanks, David!

If it were not so far away and having to go thru the city, I would try coming to a meeting. I am an old country boy who is scared in the BIG city.
That and my bad kidneys that prevent me from doing LONG drives keep me away.
I may be only 66 and a youngster to some here, my issues with health make me feel ages older at times. The Harley helps me stay young...but, it been down for almost 3 weeks now!!! Dang Harley and slow shipping!

    I hear you!
I have a text file that I keep track of how many shaves I have on a given blade as well as the maximum number of shaves I normally get with that brand/type of blade. Fortunately, I don't use more than one of a given brand/type of blade at a time, otherwise I would definitely have to mark them with a Sharpie!

During my meeting with Joe, the subject did come up to have a TSD regional meeting. Obviously, NYC is expensive and quite the rathole so it wouldn't be feasible for most guys. I mentioned Philadelphia as a possibility. However, it was just a quick mention in passing. I think the best time would be during the summer so that the weather wouldn't be too much of an issue unless a deluge of precipitation occurs. Again, it was not a serious discussion. At this time, the only trip that I would make is to Pasteur's Pharmacy in NYC because I live near the Long Island Railroad and I could easily take a train to Penn Station such that it is an easy walk to Pasteur's.

I have a neodinium magnet that I dry my blades on after rinsing. I can have as many as 3 blades on it at a time. SE & DE blades
