I have a pair of those Joe, beautiful razors and boy do they shave - but they’re huge! They remind me of the big, friendly St Bernard that thinks he’s a lap dog.
After testing hones and raxors for a while, it’s nice to get back to my familiar friends. User grade Filarmonica Novodur 14, and the ‘new’ hone and (really) new tomo are bringing home the bacon as they say. AdP Colonia waa lathered with a Simpsons 58, but I wanted a bit lighter AS so Agua Balsamica finished up.
There’s only one thing better than a M.K. 31, a M.K. 31-1/2! It’s actually a M.K. 32 with corrective honing because of wear. In spite of moderately light wear, you can tell that the razor was well loved. Most razors of this vintage that have been used this much show signs of patina, rust, pitting, etc but this one had none of those, the steel was bright and unblemished. Whoever used it enough to wear it down a little also took exceptionally good care of it. So it’s now between the 31 and 32. Alex Gilmore’s #10 did the finishing. Cream was ABC lathered with a Scott Lockwood two band with a Duke 3 handle copy. A bit of IC Rhubarb balm added to the fall experience.
Really nice razor Steve! Could be the reason why all my MK30 and 31 have different blade sizes.. tools that have been used for a long time. Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
