    Good evening.

    Straight Razor Shave #400
    10/8 Max Sprecher (71 shaves)
    Catie's Bubbles Tuxedo Brush
    Razorock XX SS
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS
    Maggard's Alum Block
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 26.5 hrs

    20221013_210621.jpg

Tonight, I achieved 2 milestones. I hit #400 traditional straight shaves and couple with 400 shavette shaves gives me a total of 800 open blade shaves. It took me just 4 years to do it. Obviously, I had to pick Max for these dual milestones.

I have continued with bowl lathering and Razorock lathers quite well. It produced a rich and creamy lather that was perfect for me.

    20221013_211537.jpg

Everything went well with the shave, except a microwave appeared on the border of the colored portion of my upper lip. The cold water took care of it
Two passes and touchups gave me a nice, comfortable shave. I didn't get much feedback from the alum so I was happy with the result. Finished with the witch hazel and a generous splash of the aftershave. Take care.

Joe, you are really good at whipping up some nice shave cream in that bowl! I get mine almost to the same point. It all works! Unless I add too much water!
I won't be shaving until later today prolly before bed. I don't really have enuff to shave this morning. I also have to get going and head over to a friend of mine's place so we can practice some guitar and just have some fun playing.
He is also a good teacher who is my senior by about 10 years or so. He is trying to teach me some music theory. I play totally by ear but, I am getting to know the chords and notes up the neck. Scales!
Going to be a nice day to re-arrange the garage and put away summer yard stuff. Also to bring the snowblower to the front so it is easy to attach to my tractor when needed. My blade can handle the light stuff and the quick-connect unit on the tractor makes swapping easy.

Fall is upon me! It's going to be a nice day!

    Later!

    Hey Gary,

That is cool that your friend is sharing some theory with you. I plan to share some theory with a friend tomorrow as well to help him with playing bass.
I plan to share with him the circle of fifths as well as an excellent book that explains the Nashville Number System (NNS) and all the features of it (including adding rhythm notation, key changes, partial measures, etc.) which you cannot find on the Internet (at least I have never been able to find it). I really like that book as it does not assume you know anything about music or any kind of notation and goes from there. All of that stuff applies to any instrument and not just bass (which is good as his main instrument has been guitar). It will help him recognize common chord progressions which will help him figure out songs more quickly when he hears them (and could help him if he tries writing his own songs).

    Enjoy!

Thanks Gary. Bowl lathering with that smooth bowl does take longer than when I use my white ceramic bowl that has bumps. The 2 metal bowls and the ceramic one cost me 5 bucks total. It is proof that you don't need to buy expensive bowls to make great lathers.
I play the harmonica by ear just for fun. It is very relaxing that's for sure.
It's good that you are learning the guitar chords. Have a great session with your friend and have a great day.

I haven't been posting shaves here lately as I have been letting my razor bumps heal from a few weeks ago (so I have not been shaving as much) and my razor combinations have not followed this month's themes. I have started experimenting with cold water shaves to reduce the chance of irritation and I have been impressed so far.

That said, here is yesterday's shave which I enjoyed very much.

    Growth: Two day beard.
Prep: Warm shower: Stirling Sheep bar soap
Pre: Washed face with Stirling Glacial unscented pre-shave soap then reapplied before lathering.
    Brush: Rudy Vey 25mm STF
Lather : Razorock XXX Italian shaving soap
    Blade: Feather (D1)
    Razor: Yates 921
    Base Plate: M
    Handle: Razorock Haloed UFO

Post: unscented Stirling witch hazel and PAA Mysterium Serum

Normally, I would use the H plate with a Nacet blade but decided to try the M plate with a Feather based on good experience using this combination for touch ups on another shave.

Second time cold water shaving. One pass DFS!
Two nicks on first pass. Decided to do a second ATG pass on neck and it made it smooth in that direction (but picked up a nick on the Adams apple) but I was probably good with just one pass with this blade plate combination.
A little razor burn in the mustache area.

This is a good combination for a DFS. I would skip the second pass if I was looking for just a DFS.

    Joe,

Congrats on your shaving milestones! That is very cool.
It is also nice to know that you can eventually get to a good lather with a smooth bowl.
Also very cool that you play harmonica and that you can do it by ear. Very impressive!

    Have a great Friday!
