Not mine, but thought I'd share, as I can relate! -------- I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it. Employment application blanks always ask who is to be called in case of an emergency. I think you should write, "An ambulance." The older you get the tougher it is to lose weight because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends. The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement. Have you ever noticed: The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are XL. The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he knows when he's really in trouble. Did you ever notice that when you put the 2 words "The" and "IRS" together it spells "Theirs" Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it. Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way and a lot of the roads were not paved. Ah! Being young is beautiful but being old is comfortable. May you always have: Love to share, Cash to spare, Tires with air, And friends who care.
Just keep fighting it, every step of the way, with physical and mental exercising, daily. Oh, and start to dial back your caloric intake.
I had dropped an arrow at a competition once. I s-l-o-w-l-y bent down to pick it up. The fellow next to me (who, I would estimate, was in his 70's) observed, "The floor gets farther away every year, doesn't it?"
I've found that the "Golden Years" are not really all their cracked up to be. And you have to be tough to get old, it's not for the lazy for sure
Next year, God willing, I'll turn the big Seven Zero. I literally cannot believe how fast it got here. As somebody once explained to me, "Think of it this way; when you're 10 years old, each passing season is 1/40th of our life. When you're 60, each season has taken up 1/240th of your life." So each season seems smaller and smaller and goes faster and faster ... A couple of years ago, through Facebook, which I very rarely visit, a classmate mentioned that there would be an informal gathering of high school classmates, almost 50 years after our graduation, at a local bar. My wife urged me to go. I hadn't been to even one reunion in half a century. We decided to go. First, I only recognized one person, a former cheerleader who still looked great. One guy at the bar looked at me but I had no idea who he was. He died this past year. When we left, my wife asked me if I would go to the Official 50th Reunion Big Shindig a few months later. I assured her I wouldn't. I had a couple of nice exchanges with a few people but for the most part, they were people I didn't remember or didn't want to remember. I guess I'm comfortable being my age. Do I have a choice?
Five years ago, I turned 70. When I had my annual physical, I told my doctor I had LXX. She looked puzzled. After I explained it, we both had a good laugh. Now, I tell them I have OLD. My seasons are passing at a rate of 1/300 of my lifespan. Weeks are zipping by.
My wife just had her pre-op appointment for cataract surgery. It took three hours. She is scheduled for February 8 for her right eye and two weeks later for the left. Hope yours goes well for you. They say you notice a big difference. Wish you had had it done earlier.
I really don't want to say much ...... I'm a young pup compared to some and an old fart compared to others, but that's all good, my boys still respect and love me and my wife thinks I'm a twelve year old at heart. Somethings change the important things don't.
A couple of years ago I started noticing that stairs have twice as many steps as they used to. It's not like I woke up one day and decided to begin climbing stairs one step at a time; it just seemed to happen by itself.
+1 Youth has no age. It takes a long time to become young. (Pablo Picasso) Just look at my avatar. It's me, inside. And I'm only 50yo.
@Lockback best of luck to you and @Jayaruh best to your wife for the cataract surgery. I had mine (both eyes) about 4 years ago. The operation itself is fairly quick and as benign as surgery gets, in my opinion. The improvement can take some time or be noticed very quickly. That can vary with the person.
My wife had both eyes done a couple of years ago and she was amazed by the difference. My left eye is 20/20. My right eye isn't. Not even close. Hopefully, the surgery will correct that. They've come a long way with these things!
That's old? Many of us here are more than twice that!! Wait until you have kids in their teens - that'll age you fast !!
I married my wife at 22 years old and had two boys at 25. My wife took my hair and my boys made what was left white. Best thing is my oldest son is married with two daughters and a baby on the way. But they're an awesome blessing!
