  3. Monday January 16 - Just Shaving

Razor: Supply 2.0 matte black injector with SE open comb plate / Supply Black Label (5)
    Brush: Simpson's Chubby 2 Synthetic
Soap: MWF shards in Kent beechwood tub
Post: Alum, rinse, Thayers Non-alcoholic Unscented Witch Hazel, Lucky Tiger Face Tonic, Ogalalla Bay Rum Double Strength Bay Rum & Vanilla splash

My last shave was January 10, so a six-day stubble to mow. I just repeated my last shave in its entirety.

The Simpson's Chubby did its usual excellent job of whipping up a lather from the MWF. The MWF face lathered easily into a thin but slick coating. A lot of chunks breaking off the soap "rind" now; I am close to the point where I dump the fragments into my shower soap bag and declare the puck officially gone.

One pass with the razor and a couple cleanup strokes in places got me to near BBS.

    The alum was totally silent.

I often use Lucky Tiger topped with a splash. Today, I repeated last shave's process: a mist of witch hazel first, then the Lucky Tiger, and then the old bottle of Ogalalla Bay Rum splash. Again, the Double Strength Ogalalla Bay Rum gave me a "Yes! You are really really wide awake now!" burn -- even through the other two products. Which is the reason it's now an old bottle. But it was bearable and the result was pleasant afterwards. I have a half bottle of the Lucky Tiger and the same of the Ogalalla. I think I will continue to use these as my joint splashes until both run out. I will then replace the Lucky Tiger but not the Double Strength Ogalalla Bay Rum splash...

Hope everybody has a good week!

  6. Jan 16 SOTA

    Good afternoon.

    Straight Razor Shave # 429
    5/8 Dovo Best Quality
    Omega Pro 49 Boar Brush
Stirling Frankincense and Myrrh SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Beard Growth: 24 hrs

    20230116_165227.jpg

Back with the Stirling Frankincense and Myrrh setup because I am trying to use it up. I probably will use this soap and aftershave through the rest of the week and using natural brushes to lather the soap as well.
This Omega Pro 49 still is a great performer, but it shredded 2 bristles today and that was due to my vigorous loading the soap that resulted in a creamy, voluminous and slick lather. Stirling is a can't miss for me.
Did a two passer for a near BBS shave. However, during the second pass, I decided to refresh the edge. I did such a great job that I tagged myself under my chin. I went in too straight instead of on an angle and therefore, gave myself a nick. The alum sealed it and it looks indispensable. Yes, it does profit one to have a light touch when using a straight. Anyway, the alum block was negligible because my shave was comfortable and smooth despite my carelessness. Splashed on the matching aftershave and I am good to go. Have a great evening.
  7. Sounds like a great shave despite the one nick. I take it Frankincense and Myrrh is not one of your favourite Stirling scents, Joe?

  8. Thanks, Gary. My "Fat" shaves are nearing their end. And with the many many years worth of soaps and creams I have sitting around, I probably won't replace the MWF. I have a lot of creams that are turning into croaps as it is without adding more product to the stack.

  10. Thanks John. It's rare that I nick myself with my straights or shavettes, but it does happen. It's true that Stirling Frankincense and Myrrh is not one of my favorite scents. I bought it 3 yrs ago and it was still almost full by the beginning of Nov. I presently have a donut hole so I hope to be finished with it by the end of February/ beginning of March.

  12. I see that Bill Neumann raised its prices...from $30-34" on large-sized aftershaves and $28-30 on 8 oz. soaps. In consolation, now it's easier to make a $60 purchase for free shipping.

  20. Not as good of shave as the previous wo days, as I celebrated my first ever contribution to Tabac Tuesday with the Mama Bear Beau Brummel soap and Razorock Puros Aftershave. Nice tobacco scents in both. One cut(left side of jawline), one Knick(right side of same), and no Polka-dots. I easily could have avoided the cuts had I not opened my mouth to say "Ahh, pretty good" right while I was down there. It WAS "pretty good" right until then. Great on the cheeks/sideburns, Porcupine Alley(both parts). Acceptable down at Cactus, but I blame that on being thrown off stride by what happened at the jawline. The Puros felt real nice-just enough tobacco scent )cigar leaf)to be comfortable. Pretty Excellent for this one. Maybe tomorrow if I be qiuiet and let the razor work the jawline tomorrow, I can raise that grade.
