I thought this was a Simpson Captain, but it's too big, by like 5mm. Its got a nice heft to it ....... actually more than you'd expect.
Just in time for March. Cool stuff already. This came on the Wednesday What I believe might actually be an Aristocrat ’46 – 48. The advert looked fair dinkum so I wasn’t too worried. It was listed as “Vintage Gillette Aristocrat Razor with Case and Blade bank. Excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. Circa 1947-48 (no blade notch on centre bar). TTO works smoothly. Doors open/close as they should” Used but looks very useable. Mechanically good. Very happy with that. Looking forward to cleaning this up on the weekend and putting it in my rotation. Wondering what this is plated with. Minor wear, I can live with that. Plan to just use warm water and dish detergent, then some rubbing alcohol, repeat wash, rinse and dry. Minor polish with Gumption if needed. Also wonder if the case if leatherette or leather. I guess some light wash and some dubbin or leather treatment?
75 Personna 74 razor blades for less than .50 cents per blade. An absolute steal. These are the best blades vintage or new ever. They stay sharp for well over a month. My record was 55 days on one Personna 74 blade and I tossed it not because it lost its sharpness but only because I was bored and wanted to try a different blade. Great deals are still out there.
Picked these items up a couple of weeks ago. Just hadn't had time to post. Old Spice mug $5 Gillette long handle Black Beauty $12 Schick N Type NOS w/two pack blades $6.50 Included the mug and the razor with some raffle prizes as extra bonuses. I wasn't sure on the Gillette but it cleaned up pretty good.
Arrived 2nd March Last thing to arrive. Advertised as “suit barber or shed display” so I knew this was poor stock but took a punt just for fun. Looks like it has already been "restored" a few times! I don’t think they knew what this was, it came with a Gem leaflet which looks in fair condition. (will hold on that for now unless someone can think of a better use for it). The case is shabby. The razor is in poor condition. A few minor bent teeth. I think the razor will clean up but the thread in the stem is worn and won’t hold the the cap in place without some plumber PTFE, so atm it is non functional. Not sure if this can be machined / repaired or even worth it. It is marked C162939, anyone have an idea what this is? early 1900's 102 perhaps? I think I will leave this as is, or I may just move this on. You win some you lose some! Part of the fun!
@Frijolero hi and thanks! Yet another cool website to bookmark. At least I now know what I have, even though it is not exactly useable.
Just got my raffle prize from @John Beeman today. He even threw in an additional dispenser of Schick Krona injector blades. Thank you very much John; these blades will go to good use.
I've been looking over for the past few days and finally today with day light coming through the window, I faintly see "berset" near the center of the bottom. It's a Rubberset! I've never seen one like this ...... make me like it even more.
Old Spice /Full From Facebook $7.00 + shipping came to $16.85. Couldn’t pass it up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am a vintage/antique tool hound and scour Craig's list, yard sales and antique shops for forgotten abused tools. Yesterday I stopped by a gentleman's home (a few mile from my parents home) and picked up three or four boxes of tools. I'll post pics as soon as I get to pull them from my vehicle.
Some is trash and other is treasure There is also a box of saws of various ages shapes and sizes. Also a box of auger bits. Some I'll pitch, some I'll donate to work, the rest I'll restore.
That is a Stanley #80 scraper, though missing the blade; I can get one from Rocklers for $10 or Lee Valley for less than $15. The upper plane is complete a #135 Sanley Liberty, but the lower one is missing a few pieces; I'll restore both with a parts I have. The planes are transitional planes.
