Everything went well and my ears are happy about it. Lol! I have to say the frothing method to lather does make it easier. I really get nice lathers with it. Also, Stirling soaps are very easy to lather. For the money, it's the best value in town.
Did a 2 pass shave (WTG and ATG) for a nice, close comfortable shave. This time around, I didn't break the skin. Lol! The alum feedback was minimal. I will be using this sample soap the rest of the week and beyond until I finish it. It was a 1 oz sample so I should be done with it soon. Splashed on the Proraso aftershave to finish this fine session. Take care.

  8. Tuesday, March 7 - Middle Shelf March

Razor: Supply 2.0 matte black stainless with SE open comb plate / Supply Black Label (11)
    Brush: Simpson's Chubby 2 Synthetic
Soap: TOBS Lavender shaving cream (croap)
Post: Alum, Thayers Witch Hazel (unscented, alcohol-free), TSD Lavender Shave Milk

My last shave was Thursday, March 2, so five days ago. Thick stubble but not as long as on my previous shaves.

Two passes with the Supply SE lookalike had me mostly back from hobo to respectably cleanshaven in under five minutes. One pass WTG on the face and ATG on the neck got most of the stubble; then a second pass XTG on the face and WTG on the neck. I noticed afterwards that I missed a couple small patches. I got them using the Thayers witch hazel spritz as a touchup lubricant.

My first pass today felt rather rough and tuggy rather than smooth as I have come to expect. I had varied my pre-shave routine: I usually shave after a hot shower, but today I just washed my face with warm water and soap first. I thought the hot soak maybe made more of a difference than I realized. I therefore took a step back after the first rather rough pass, and soaked my face for a couple minutes with a very hot, wet washcloth. The second pass was much smoother. Of course, that also might have been because the first pass had already removed most of the stubble...

However, I then noticed that the razor didn't seem all that efficient at removing the missed patches during the touchup. In fact, I was guilty of using extra pressure on the razor to make it perform. So I think I may also have used the blade for one shave too many -- I should have quit at 10.

The alum was silent immediately after the shave. The witch hazel and TSD shave milk felt soothing. This evening though, I noticed that my throat looked a bit reddened in one spot. I didn't feel it at the time, but I clearly gave myself a mild case of razorburn.

All told, it was not a stellar shave.

Hope the week is going well for everyone.

  9. It's still was a good shave John. Less than stellar shaves are just as valid because we learn what not to do on subsequent shaves. Enjoy your day.
  10. Yes thanks Joe, I plan on doing that that next, I am still new to the MWF but liking it a lot. I did start with face lathering with it this morning but although I got a huge amount of lather, I went back to the bowl for more control.

    8 Mar Feather 800.jpg

    Pre-work shave.
    Razor = Muhle R89
Brush = Puro Tasso boar. Soaked in normal tap water.
Blade = Feather (1) (first time I used a Feather) March Madness at its best.
Soap = Mitchells Wool Fat. 2nd day I have used this...
Prep = cold and hot water soak.
    Pre-shave = Proraso white.
Lather = loaded from bloomed soap straight onto face, masses of lather, but then went back to the white bowl, adding more water slowly.
Too much lather initially! Great slickness though.
Aiming for good enough work-day shave, but it turned out to be way better than I had planned.
A combination of MWF and the Feather in the R89 could be all I need!

Still did 3 passes and some cleaning up.

Post: hot and cold water rinse. Applied left over lather to face while cleaning up, then washed this off, dried with towel, applied Thayer's. Felt I did not need any after shave balm.

Jo Malone of London Orange bitters Cologne. Wonderful start to the day.

    Result:
I managed to get through shaving the whole face in the 1st pass: I used less overlapping strokes in the first pass, perhaps I have been spending too much time on the first pass up to now. This way I was easily able to get to the chin in the first pass.
I felt I could have pushed the boundaries a bit if this was a lazy day shave.
A super shave with the MWF, the Feather and the R89. Very efficient and very comfortable.
Much easier to get around the chin with this combo, beginning to see people love this soap.

Plan: Next time I will stick with this setup, but I will start with a drier brush, loading less than I did this morning and then going back to the lathering bowl. I will see what the Feather is like on Day 2.

Fabulous start to the morning with an X3 Bar Push workout, a hot shower and fantastic shave. I will be meeting up with the Grand High Exaulted Mystic Ruler of the 30DC, Joe - @Trigger, for our monthly breakfast.

As always, Joe follows Roberts Rules of Order except when our lovely waitress comes along. It is truly a sight to behold, a man of action.

Obviously better than the alternative Joe could have presented himself for our meeting if it was earlier this week.

I proceeded with my usual three pass shave. The boar brush easily load the soap off the puck and developed a luxurious lather with the assistance of the Fine lather bowl.

The end result was a super close and comfortable shave. I am all set for a great breakfast and conversation.

Hope you all have an awesome day.

    Tabac shave soap.

Karve and Tabac......what a combo! Three very nice smooth passes for a winner this morning.

My tip for the day....slow down and enjoy the shave. It makes a nice start for the day.

    Happy Humpday everyone!

  17. Fine shave this morning, closing out(until next time)the Gillette Foamy magnificent goo , followed by PS(Paul Sebastian)A.S. Not good on the left cheek, better on the right. North Porcupine could stand some improvement, but South turned out OK. Very good again down at Cactus(neck). One pass. Zero cuts, Knicks, Polka-Dots. At first, I missed the jawline/under the ear part, but had the good sense to go back and get them. Pretty Outstanding is the best I can give this one. A return to soaps tomorrow. The PS was great-nice juice.
  18. Of Zingari?
    Trigger and JACarbone like this.
  19. Yes. Yesterday's valuable reminders for me:

    1. Shaving after a hot shower really helps soften the beard. Do this whenever possible. If not showering first, soaking the face with a hot washcloth for a couple minutes before shaving can also work.

    2. Probably the most important one -- If the razor is tugging, stop shaving immediately and change the blade. It is likely either bad if fresh or worn out if previously used. Blades are cheap and plentiful; no need to be a skinflint.

    3. Finally, upon noticing missed stubble patches and deciding to do a further cleanup, instead of using witch hazel as a quick lubricant, re-lather and do it properly.
  20. Wonderful shave and I agreed with your assessment to the start of the day. Have a great day Danny.
