Here is one of the recent Böker offerings. Mister Kutter 7/8, extra hollow. I am still getting used to this grind. It is quite compact. I got the 7/8 because i have found the smaller blades with this grind to be to light. 6/8 full hollow is my preferred size.
Sorry Scott, am away on vacation, and haven’t been checking the site. Thanks @Steve56 for responding!
Anyone acquire or use an S.K.Colling straight razor?? Made in Australia. The guy looks like he does very nice work, and it appears to be a family business. He has a facebook page called Proserpine Razor Company.: https://m.facebook.com/steveandkelcolling Also on Ebay under S.K.Colling Razors.
I just bought another modern made razor. It was kind of an accident, because I Put a low bid on it, not expecting to win. Unknown how long it will take to arrive. Hint, it is coming from Latvia.
Now, it's time for "The Big Wait". Hopefully customs doesn't hold it up, and everything goes smoothly.
I have no experience with straight razors however I have seen this guy online shavesmith.com his work looks beautiful.
Nope, nope, and double nope, for a beginner. I am not familiar with the quality of the steel this person uses, or how well the blade is designed, and forged. But, if it is quality steel, with correct dimensions, then it is not for a beginner. The business ends of the blade are pointy, and will slice you good, if you aren't perfect with your techniques. Start simple, and with rounded ends.
Oh forsure it's not something I'd buy for me , thus my zero experience statement , I just thought I'd add to the modern razor thread of something I'd come across.
RigaRazor Made in Latvia 15/16th 1/4 Hollow Well, it finally came in, today. Once it made it to the USA, it was a fast trip. No issues with customs. "RIGA" the razor.
I just contacted Sergej, at RigaRazor. I was curious as to what steel was used for his razors. I have had fantastic shaves with my Riga. Usually I like very thin blades, but this Big Thick Blade does the job just as well. Here is the reply. Hello Scott , Thank you for message . I use 100Cr6 carbon steel for my blades , trade mark - Bohler R100 , similar with American AISI 52100 steel . Thank you for kind words about my razors . Best Regards . Sergej . ..
I hope you are enjoying your Riga Razor. I have two and they are amongst the finest razors I own. The take exceptionally sharp edges and hold them for a long time.
It was your advice some years ago that led to my only modern razor purchase of a Riga Razor - the most effortless feeling shave I have in my den. Good to see your name in the Den again
