    I agree with Joe, Chris.

The problem almost certainly was not the Arko. Arko is a very easy soap to get to lather and it's very slick while shaving. However, unlike soaps like MWF, the post-shave facial care is lacking: by itself, Arko can leave your face feeling a bit dry. Some sort of splash or balm is usually helpful. The biggest complaint people have about it is the "industrial lemon" scent, although I don't mind it. Adding other soaps or scents to change that is common and won't ruin the performance.

A "tuggy" sensation is almost always a blade problem. Gillette Silver Blues are usually good blades, iirc, so you likely had a dud. Dumping it for a new one is an easy fix.

With a fresh blade, tomorrow's shave should be better.

    Good afternoon.

    Straight Razor Shave #444

    Hembree/Maggard Timberwolf Brush
    Arko SS
    Pinaud-Clubman AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Beard Growth: 25 hrs

I got a nice, creamy, and slick Arko lather using Danny's Brush. I haven't used my Ralf Aust in awhile so it had to be picked for today’s session.
Two passes gave me a super close shave without any drama. The alum was mostly silent. The P/C Classic aftershave was the cherry on top of the ice cream. Have a nice evening guys.

What can I say...12 sticks should last a while :eatdrink047: wishing you many more Arko Aprils John!

Thanks Joe, as always your insights are most helpful.

Thank you John, more thumbs up for the Arko, I don't really mind the initial Arko scent, it does linger during the day. Nice to see the same comment about the blade tugginess, I have tried this one more time earlier today and am still on the fence about the blade.

    Adjustable April/ Arko April

Time to see if the Arko measures up and makes the cut.

    6 Apr 2023 1000-80 border.jpg

After y’day, today I made some changes to try and figure out one of the variables.
I fell back to my trusty Muhle R89 knowing how this performs, and decided to give the Gillette Silver Blue (new blade) another chance, still with the Arko.

    Growth: 24 hours
    Lather Bowl: Blue
    Brush: Old Vulfix Pure Badger
Razor: R89 my trusty fall back “can- do-it-with-this-one” razor.
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1) gave this another chance.
Face Prep and Pre-shave: the usual, no changes there.
Cream/Soap: Arko mixed with aftershave, but this time I bowl lathered. Much better control of soap/water ratio. Much better lather, nice.

Passes: Usual 3 passes were needed.
    Touch ups: as usual.
But it was still hard work, more draggy, better than yesterday, but not the sharp feeling I have with an Astra SP/Nacet /Feather.
Still needed more strokes per area per pass.
So at this stage I think the Gillette Silver Blue does not measure up for me anyway. Doable yes, workable yes, ideal maybe not.

    Arko? decision pending.

    Results:
    Nicks/Red spots/bleeding = none
Overall satisfactory shave but because of the dragging feeling it took longer to complete each pass, and only rate this a 6 or 7 out of 10.

Yaqi Sentinel 1.5mm stainless steel head.
Homelike Shaving Voevoda stainless steel handle.
    Astra SP blade (fresh).
Shore Shave Cool Water Mint Ribbon synthetic brush.
    Timeless Razor shave bowl.
American Tobacco by Andy Hilfiger cologne.

The Shore Shave whipped up the Tabac up in no time......thick and good. :)

The Yaqi Sentinel head punches way above its price point.....very efficient and smooth. Three excellent passes with no blood loss. I'm very pleased with it and if I had to do it over again I would add it the den in a flash.

    I hope everyone has a wonderful day!:happy005:
