5th shave from this Ukranian razor, since bought, and honed. . I had a pretty smooth 2 pass shave, with BBS results. One weeper, under the nose. My fault, not the razors. I am conflicted on this razor, and the steel. I might touch it up, on a finishing stone, and pay a little more attention to things. It just isn't holding the crisp edge like I like. It still shaves well, just not superbly. Then again, it is some thick steel, and I don't prefer thick steel, but prefer thin Extra Hollow Ground blades. Razor- Gipson Razor "Alvaro". Ukraine. 8/8 inches Brush- B-400, By Tom(@twhite ). Omega Boar knot Soap- ARKO Aftershave- Florida Water
I agree with you Scott, I have honed the Gipson and it is definitely better than from factory but still not as good as old razors with better steel quality. The best new razor I have is the TI. Also the German razor have some semi hard edges that isn’t the same as it was earlier days (said the old grumpy guy). Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
Saturday Straights' Cold Water Shave Cold Water Rinse Morning TOST Shave Soap Tom's B400 Two-band Badger Wilbert "Acme" CWR Aqua Velva Musk AS The Morning TOST Shave Soap lathered well with the Tom's B400 Two-band Badger brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Wilbert "Acme" Straight gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Aqua Velva Musk After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
Filarmonica 14 Especial, cream was SMN lathered with a lime Paladin, and a splash of Eau Sauvage finished up a great Sunday shave.
First trial edge from the woodgrain stone that arrived this morning. I re-edged the Filarmonica Especial and the edge did exceedingly well, sharp and smooth. The stone is not flat though, it’s high in the center. I’ve had other used stones that were high in the middle, likely from using the sides of the face for small tools/knives, because the ‘dome’ was not in any way symmetrical, IOW, it wasn’t shaped, it was worn that way. Anyway, it was a fantastic edge, sharp and smooth and I’m looking forward to more edges from a flattened stone.
