Alabama Awesome shave and setup Danny! BTW, Mantic, the Sharpologist stated that the Masamura in a Titanium version will be available sometime later in the year. I can only imagine the price point on it.

    Thanks Joe.

That would be pricey...I bet north of $500.00.

    Take care.

I would say so. The only advantage would be it would be much lighter than a regular stainless steel razor. However, the big disadvantage would be that one's wallet would be lighter. Lol!

True...I'm just not much on adjustables even though I have a few. I just like the simplicity of a three piece. Once I set an adjustable I hardly ever readjust it so what is the point of one if I don't use the adjustability.

    Take care.

I definitely understand your perspective Danny. In the past, I was a full throttle guy and always left it on the max setting for every pass. It wasn't until about a year and a half ago that I started using milder settings for my 24 hr stubble and found that I can get a close shave without going full throttle. True, I have to buff more, but I am OK with it. What got me to this new personal philosophy was when I was getting better shaves with my non-adjustable mild razors such as the Van der Hagen and Gillette Redtip. It truly was a game changer for me, especially when I applied it to my headshaves. I always say do what works best for you, but don't exclude delving into new techniques because you may find a whole better way of shaving. Of course, we can't forget the caveat; your mileage may vary.

    More great shaves and setups!

Nice going Paul, one day I will have to try starting with Against The Grain, and hope to emulate your No cuts, Knicks, Polka-dots routine!

Thanks Joe, enjoying this hobby more.

Well, that makes sense, I guess the mill gets quite hot and dry. Nice to read about people's different strategies. I agree, ageing skin needs more care, not for looks or anything, but to help it heal in time for the next shave!;) More fun things to experiment with.

    24 hours, pre-work shave.

    Back to a DE shave.

Prep = Usual Preshave with Proraso Green. Normally I would half wash this off prior to lathering. However, after @Trigger ‘s recent comment about the Noxema Cleansing Cream, I decided to leave this on and lather right over the top of it. I certainly felt the menthol more, got the eyes watering for a change.

Soap = Tabac, making sure to get this nice and thick.
Brush = Vulfix Old Original Pure Badger
    Razor = Gillette Aristocrat
Blade = Gillette Stainless (1) last one of the tuck.

3 Passes were needed followed by ATG buffing.
ATG buffing was successful at the top lip, left lower neck, Adam's apple area, but somehow missed cleaning up the right lower neck.
Multiple buffing passes needed to get super smooth, but with this lather and this razor this worked fine.

Post: Warm water rinse, cold water rinse, alum was friendly today, Thayers, Tabac AS balm. After that applied some Tabac lotion on top of that. Delightful.

Residual = right lower neck despite multiple passes in multiple different directions. Still need to figure a better technique for this area.

    Damage: None

    Result:
    1. More menthol eye watering.
    2. Super smooth shave. BBS both cheeks/sideburns/top lip. Very nice.
    3. Lovely post shave feel and scent.

All set for the day’s work and the weekend ahead.

Happy Friday ladies and gents, enjoy the weekend ahead.

Well done Chris! Glad the Noxema preshave and lathering over it gave you a nice lather and fine shave.

Thing is, at times when I go Against The G, I will get a cut and or Knick. You just never know. North to South is usually a safe bet, but the flip side is, you leave a lot of hairs(astroturf) on the skin. That's what a shave is, afterall, an "experiment"(like you said).

    Dome Turf: 3 days

Today, I decided to do a face and headshave. I picked out my Ace of Spades Straight because it's been some time since I used it. I chose the Rockwell 6C because I get an easy and efficient headshave with it. Of course, I can't go wrong with any Stirling Soap. Therefore, Intrepid Man got the call.

    20230512_095942.jpg

I had to refresh my straight because it wasn't doing an optimal job on the first pass. I redid the first pass and the razor's efficiency went up dramatically. Did the third pass and touch-ups for a nice, close, near BBS shave without any drama.
The headshave went well. I had to add water to the brush to reload it from the bowl. Three passes and touch-ups gave me a cueball smooth shave.
The alum gave me some feedback, but not on the dome. Splashed on a heavy dose of Old Spice and I am ready to meet the world. Take care.
