Just wondering how these two stack up to each other in terms of aggressiveness, efficiency, popularity...

My 1955 Redtip is a mild shaver until I install a couple blade shims. Regardless an open comb out shaves it every time due to it's blade exposure.

    Hi Jim.

It has been fun watching you get knee-deep into the hobby. Keep on having fun and starting these new threads. We love the discussion.

You picked 3 great razors. The Gillette NEW Short Comb and the Red Tip are commonly said to shave more efficiently than the Super Speed. I have all three, and with practice, you'll get nearly the same results from all of them.

The Short Comb is my favorite of three, mainly because it came from an era when my Dad was a young man who was beginning to shave. I always think of him when I use it.

A Red Tip or a Super Speed often go into my travel kit. It's less fiddly to change blades in them vs. a 3-piece design. Just for fun, I picked up Super Speeds made during my Bride's and Sister's birth quarter. A dear friend gifted me the Red Tip.

You can usually find great deals on these razors. You can't go wrong with a pile of 'em in your den. :)

I have two more razors on the way making a total of 12 razors in a short time. Still, just a drop in the bucket to you guys!

    I personally don't like a SS. I thinks it's too mild.

Hear Hear! Just a question of long or short handle! Or vintage if you can find one.

I keep hearing about a razor called the "Popular", I think. Going to have to look into that one. Also one called the "Aristocrat". I'm probably the only guy here who doesn't own either one...for now.

Is there any particular iteration that is preferred?

I have both, but my preference is the short handle (vintage).

they are all fun, cool razors.populars are pricy,if you can find good ones.the smoothest/most efficient aristocrat is the 3rd gen..1948-52 if you just want the most useful one.they come in a few different sets, but look for this razor.

This may ruffle feathers, but I find the Gold Aristocrat not as good as a Merkur 34C ..... it's just gold.

Can longer handles be bought for the 34C?

the other thing nice about the Progress is there is no 0verhang of the blade tab, easier on the ears.

If it's a Super Speed, I'll take the Red Tip. If it's a Gillette, it's tough to pick one. Perhaps my Fat Boy or my Sheraton.
