    2 days growth, Tabac Tuesday, Gillette Tech

    25 Jul 2023.jpg

    Prep = usual
    Cream = Tabac cream
    Brush = Semogue OC cherry finest badger (1)
    Bowl = Op Shop Microwave proof bowl made in Japan
    Razor = Gillette Made in Argentina Tech
    Blade = Gillette Rubie (1)
    3 passes + touch ups
    Post = cold water rinse, Alum, cold water rinse, Thayers, Tabac ASL and Balm

    Semogue: first time use of, nice backbone; soft on the face, holding on to the lather a bit, already splaying after one use
    Argentinian Tech: no problems with lather clogging
    Rubie (1): smooth, sharp, happy
    Bowl: nice and wide, reasonable depth lightweight, easy to clean
    Results: some BBS top lip after ATG. Superbly scented for the day
    Damage: none

    After all was said and done and the clean up completed I found some stubborn little stragglers at the midline just below the chin: Gillette Sensor Excel to the rescue, oh well it’s still a Gillette day!

    After @Terry ‘s comments about old timers & grey beards etc, I think I will stick to single use of blades for a while to see if this helps…

    (PS: Finally the Plumbers have come and gone from this house, hope that’s the last I will see of them, we have gas, water, hot water and no more leaks...)

    Fine shave Chris. I have the Semoque OC Super Badger Brush with the same handle. My Badger brushes are lather hogs. To circumvent it, I over load the brush, then paint on the lather without splaying. Subsequently, I will lightly splay the brush and do circular motions until I am satisfied with the lather. Pushing the brush hard into the face will make the lather retreat into the bristles.

    Real nice shave this morning I received my Stoylin Glacial yesterday(Lemom Chill)and went right to work with it today. Clean and clear on the cheeks&sideburns, North and South Porcupine came out fine, as did the jawline after "chipping away" at it(as we chip ice off our cars in the wintertime), and I did about as good as I could down at Cactus(neck). 2 passes. Nice work with the aftershave, and Halston cologne for the close. Most Outstanding.

    Great insight Joe.:thanks: Thanks! That describes exactly what was happening to me, pushing too hard on the face, with lather all collecting at the knot end of the brush. I guess too much pressure in the bowl will do the same thing. Perhaps the italian grip near the knot will help too.

    Nice shave and description/chipping Paul. No ice here in Perth West. Australia... last time our car iced up was when we lived in Invercargill (NZ), so chipping windscreens and hot water to unfreeze the doorlocks were the order of the day. I will add "chipping" to my repertoire.:happy088:

    July 25 SOTA

    Good afternoon.

    Shavette Shave # 469
    Parker SRB
    Gillette Wilkinson Sword 1/2 DE Blade (2)
    MrEE Tuxedo Brush
    Chiseled Face Cryogen SS
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Beard Growth: 22.5 hrs

    Headshave:
    Mühle R102 (R41)
    Gillette Wilkinson Sword DE Blade (fresh)
    Dome Turf: 3 days

    20230725_160015.jpg

    I had a great shave session this afternoon. I decided to go full bore by choosing my Parker Shavette and my Mühle R102 for the shaves. Again, Cryogen came to the rescue with its cooling relief on my epidermis. Here's the lather:

    20230725_160711.jpg

    I only needed two passes on my face and dome for an error-free BBS result. When I do a headshave, I don't usually have a fresh blade in my Mühle R102 because it is very aggressive, but these Gillette Wilkinson blades are just magic for me. They are sharp and comfortable blades that tone down the aggressiveness of this razor without compromising its efficiency.

    The alum feedback was very slight all around. Splashed on the AQ Ice Blue aftershave to finish this session. I finished this bottle and I have to go to my pharmacy to get another one. Take care.
